What bourbon are you drinking - Fall 2013

went to a dinner fundraiser thingy tonight with some friends. There wasn't much at the bar that I hadn't tried. I tried to order a Russels Reserve to give that a shot, but they were out. Then I said, what the hell, and ordered the Dickel Rye, to see what a Dickel charcoal filtering does to LDI distillate. I can't quite describe the aftertaste, but 'mint' is as close as I can come up with. Anyone else had it? I'm not much of a rye fan, but it was one of the few that I hadn't had yet.

Had I known my friends were picking up the tab as a 'happy birthday' treat, I could've tried lots more!:skep:

Dickel 12, as I calculate what I need on monday's upcoming nationalized final exam, in order to keep my current grade.... shouldnt be a problem. Either way, a party will ensue.

do they put crack in Dickel?

A smallish pour of some SB blend w/ a touch of '13 WLW. It's vatting well and gets better by the week.

try as I may, I just don't get the vitamin reference with Dickel.

or, maybe I just like vitamins....

I believe that's one of those things that gets repeated, like funky yeast with Beam or eucalyptus in Heaven Hill.

I don't find those things myself nor do I use those descriptors.

Two pours of ezra 101. Been trying to like it and turns out the secret was to drink it standalone. Was the perfect pour.

Or its a house flavor that many pick up....like minty LDI rye or bananas in JD.

Just because some consider it to be an off flavor while others are not sensitive to it doesn't mean that it doesn't exist.

Had some Booker's at the bar for team trivia last night, followed by a clandestine pour of WFE 7 year provided by a fellow SBer. Two complimented one another very well. This was another in a line of KBD pours that seem to obviously be HH to me.

Mint it is. Really don't enjpy it at all neat but is fantastic in Manhattan's, ginger, etc

Just because some consider it to be an off flavor while others are not sensitive to it doesn't mean that it doesn't exist.

I have a multiple personality disorder. Sometimes I get a lot of mint in rye and I love it. Sometimes I find it disagreeable. Sometimes I can't even detect it. And that's all from the same bottle.

I never heard it described that way either... until I came here. My description of the note (that I think is being described) has always been "earthy". I just know that when I drink it I like it, alway have and hope that I always will.

I started with the Dickel hand selected barrel as my intorduction to Dickel. the 9 year one....

At first, I found it a bit odd. "sooty" was the descriptor I could best come up with. A little reminiscent of a campfire the next morning after a little misting overnight. Two or three drinks into it, I discovered I reaaaaally liked it, but I no longer even notice a 'sootiness' to it, and have no idea what the vitamin reference is. All that matters is that I like it.

Now, I just want to know are the 9 and 14 year Dickels something that's gonna be kept on the shelves, or was it just a one time thing. Anyone know?

Always good advice in this environment. I passed on both today, but admit to being mighty tempted (especially since the Fox has been drooling over it so much).

When school finishes, I'm gonna sell a few more custom wiring harnesses and hope to go stock myself up on it. I hate the thought of not finding this stuff anymore, and hope its a regular release.

Does anyone on here know the contact email for Dickel? The link on their site has never worked since I've been looking.
