mbroo5880i
I participated in a Pappy lottery this morning. I counted 21 people who showed up. They sold off a PVW20, PVW15, VWFRR, GTS, 4 bottles of Lot B, 4 bottles of 10 Year and 2 bottles of E.H. Taylor Small Batch. My number was picked fourth so I selected the GTS. I was thrilled by this as you can guess what the first three bottles selected were. They made us pay for our bottles immediately after selecting the bottle. I purchased mine, ran outside to put it in my vehicle and came back in to purchase some more items. When the lottery was finished, everyone cleared out. I was kind of disappointed by this - I thought the least some people could do was make a small purchase to support the store that gave them an even chance at getting a PVW. So I got a mixmatch of some Michigan craft beer (God, I love living within an hour's drive of so many fantastic breweries in Michigan!), a bottle of Buffalo Trace and a store selected bottle of Angel's Envy (my first). When I got to the counter, I talked to the young man about the AE. In short, he explained the process that he and five others at the store went through to get the right blend of different AE barrels. I could tell he was very proud of the final product that they selected. This will be my the next bottle I open.Congratulations! If the PVW20 and PVW15 went first, then I would have been happy with either VWFRR or GTS. It is interesting that the CEHT SmB was included. I assume that you do not get it up there regularly. We have it on the shelves in Indiana.
393foureyedfox
stopped in for a Dickel 12 today. They even gave me 25% off for being a regular. Id never had it, but have loved the Dickel 9/103 so much lately, I wanted to give it a shot. Gotta say, I still don't care much for sub 100 proof. mbroo5880i
25% off is awesome! I will be honest. While Dickel 12 gets a lot of love on the boards, I really didn't like it. I worked through 1/2 bottle and then left the remainder at a friend's cookout.

I started with the 9 year, and then hoped the D12 would be similar enough to enjoy as well. Definately a family resemblance, but the 90 proof really hurts it. suntour
Been craving Four Roses lately and had a sip of a Bulleit old-fashioned last night that tasted so extremely good I had to have more, I decided on getting a bottle of the Bulleit 10 since its on sale in Oregon this month for 40 bucks. When I got to the liquor store frugality took over and I got a $15 pint bottle of regular old Bulleit instead.Of the usual suspects I have open on the bar, it is strange to not have this pedestrian whiskey. See, it was for completeness' sake.
dmarkle
2 bottles of ETL and an ER. It took 5 shops before I could find some Elmer. When I finally tracked him down, I mentioned that fact to the proprietor of the establishment. And I mentioned how I couldn't for the life of me find any Weller 12. He mentioned that Elmer had gotten popular, and that the recent GQ article had everyone coming in for Weller 12. Of course he also bemoaned his frustrations with the 400 people on his Van Winkle list as well. I bemoaned that ETL was getting hard to find -- at least at the moment -- and he suggested I pick another spirit to be an enthusiast of.
portugieser
Against all odds, I stumbled upon a 2013 FR LE single barrel. My prior bottle was polished off several months ago so nice to find another one. Really like the OBSV and Four Roses is, frankly, doing everything right these days. Such a tasty bottle, glad I'll have more when my open one is gone. Best FR LE 1B I've tasted IMO, but then again, I've not tasted them all. portugieser
Indeed! Found a nice private selection single barrel / barrel strength as well, and these are definitely great bourbons that are flying under the radar.

oke&coke
Yesterday stopped at a small but nicely stocked shop to see what they had. Talked whiskey for a few minutes with the owner and a couple of other customers when one pulled out his personal bottle of PHC, promise of hope. He was kind enough to share a small pour with me. The nose and taste is definitely more fruity and floral than most bourbons I have tried. It was very good really. Ended up grabbing a Hirsch 20yo bourbon mash whiskey. Have never seen this particular variety. I have only seen the corn whiskey, bourbon or rye. This one was bourbon mash aged in used casks. Sounds like it will be a good change of pace from the norm. bingstein
Papa Bingstein sent me a PVW20 and a THH, which arrived today. I was surprised that the THH is 128.6, which I guess is 2011. I don't know what happened that he landed that one, but oh well. I've had the 2012 and 2009 THH. Is the THH the one that one World Whiskey of the Year somehow? TunnelTiger
Stopped by my local store today to pick up a bottle of vodka for the wife. The owner called me over to the counter, reached underneath, and said have you ever had one of these? PVW10 & PVW15.Holy cow wasn't looking for them and had no expectations. Since I've never tried before really looking forward to it.Even if they are not my thing they will look nice on the bar.

So, I'm assuming the distributor must have found some left over bottles or something.

tanstaafl2
Picked up a couple of friends for the recently acquired McKenzie Rye who arrived in town today along with some funky rum I posted pics of in the rum forum. Buying online doesn't give you much in the way of options so I ended up with these batches. Not sure if there is any difference in the bourbon, like the rye, being presumably fairly recent while the pot still whiskey appears to be from early 2012. But I liked the rye and have high hopes for these two!
