Seagrams Gold 8 year old is rather good actually. Go ahead, adopt a bottle, you may grow rather fond of it.

Walked into a store not expecting much and saw the OFBB13 and a lone bottle of THH. So, I picked them both up. The lone bottle of THH might mean that most BTACs have come and gone:(

My buddies passed through KY on the way back to GA from IL. I asked them to pass through a couple of stores I was familiar with since I had gone with them last time they went home. They brought me back FRSB Private Selection OESK and OBSK. They also picked up an OFBB 2009 as well. I can't wait until they go back again!

In the "premium bourbon isn't getting cheaper or easier to find" category, I picked up a Wild Turkey Tradition for $100 that I had passed up many times.

I pass a couple of those every week. Here lately, I've been thinking to myself, "you know, you ought to get one of those even if they are a bit too high cause when they're gone, gone for good". Maybe your post will push me with just the motivation I needed to nudge me over the line.

I must give some credit to Josh, Oscar, etc. for their posts on Tradition in the Collectibles forum (and for Josh's review). That helped put me over the hump. Bottom line, if you don't buy it soon, someone else likely will. And if Wild Turkey comes out with another premium release, it may cost more and not be as good. In my case, this was also a backlash at coming up empty with all of the premium releases this fall--FRLE, BTAC and PVW. This one was on the shelf, "under" $100, and came home with me. Not sure when I'll crack it open, but glad I have it.

Under a $100 is a good price.

Cheers

According to some fellow SBers it's a circa '99/'00 dusty. It's a very tasty pour. I had never seen it myself before this past weekend.

If it sounds a lot like Eagle Rare 10 year 94 proof SB that's not a coincidence.

That would be a good comparison except that it tastes nothing like any current BT bottling to me. I'm a big BT fan, but this tastes different - lots more caramel, less fruit. OBE, maybe?

Perhaps I should've said BT phased out Benchmark SB to concentrate on Eagle Rare SB.

Sazerac purchased the Benchmark brand in 1989 from Seagrams, presumably along with some stock as well. Saz purchased BT in 1992.

Prior to 1992 Sazerac was a bulk bottler with a well known association with Heaven Hill. So the 10 year old Benchmark Single Barrel launched in 1999 could have contained whisky from Seagrams Louisville plant, Heaven Hill, the Althertonville Distillery, or Buffalo Trace.

One of the reasons I would like to get some Benchmark SB is because it well might be different from the Buffalo Trace Eagle Rare.

We live in interesting times.

Man, I love this board. Great talking point, mosu, and informative response, squire. Mosu, here's one of the few threads on the subject: http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/showthread.php?16475-Seagram-s-Benchmark-Benchmark-SB-Question

Can I humbly add one thing? In my *extremely* limited experience, it seems like BT is pretty forthright in its labeling, e.g., my gray-label Weller 12 states distilled in FF, not LV; for that bottle, the timing would fit w/ LV, but according to gentlemen like Messrs. Cowdery and Veach, IIRC, BT (AA, I guess) was actually distilling limited wheaters as far back as the late '80s...so, when BT says "FF," I kinda think they do mean "FF." I've found the same accuracy with all the differing Old Charters floating around NoTex, which had a similar LV-to-FF migration.

Mosu: Glad you went back and picked those up. Regardless of the provenance, they're tasty and unique.

Squire: If you ever find yourself in NoTex, please let me know. I'd be honored to share some of my Benchmark SB w/ you.

Was at a rehearsal in another part of town and popped into a store that I've long intended to check out. Nothing special except that they are selling Dickel #8 handles for $18. So I picked one up. May have to bunker a couple at that price.

Gotcha, Squire. I read your response too literally. And thanks for sharing that info. The thread Eskwar linked to was one of the very few sources of information I found on the brand. And if you ever find yourself in the Phoenix area I'd be happy to share some as well!

Jefferson's Reserve very small batch for $34.95 (regularly 49.95). Eric put these on sale at P&M Liquors and I decided to take a chance at that price. Supposedly contains some 20 year old bourbon as part of the blend.
