bigtoys
1. how little 4R 125th came to Chicago2. how little Pappy came to Chicago3. how little BTAC came to Chicagocrazy to hear about people getting multiple bottles of the above in many states, especially south and west. just doesn't seem right. nd2005
I'm very disappointed that my local county went from a lottery type system for allocations to first come, first served on email. And the emails inevitably come in the middle of a work day, and when I'm at work, I only check my personal email every 2-4 hours. Under that system I will never have a chance. Granted, at this point, having tried all the Pappy's and BTAC, WLW is the only allocated product I am really interested in, but I find this very annoying nevertheless. You can set a filter on your email to send you a text message when an email from a specific sender comes in. I did this for my local store's email address so that I wouldn't miss it.
dmarkle
Going to have to add my list to the names of those disappointed by the scarcity of -any- special bottling from -any- distiller. And Wathen's.
GaryT
I've been racking my brain to think of a "new" pour that left me really disappointed this year. The only one that comes to mind is HMcK1B (which as a 1B is inevitably variable). Like everyone else, I'm disappointed that the secondary market makes it way more difficult to get some of the special releases. But looking back on 2013 - if my only disappointment was a less-than-stellar sb pick at under $35 - it was a pretty freaking good year! ECBP walked into my life, along with the GBS ETL (and the whole experience of picking that with many great folks on SB.com!), FR125, Bambi, and a few others. Oh wait - American Spirit Whiskey . . . after hearing the tale of Michael J Flynn, I was expecting something truly stupendous, but that really let me down
BourbonGuy
Bulleit Bourbon 10 year old IMHO. I purchased Bulleit Bourbon and liked it. But the 10 year is not worth almost twice the price. In fact, I prefer the regular Bulleit Bourbon. The other thing is what has been said...shortages. But what I don't understand, and maybe you can explain it to me is the rational behind shortages. I know you can't make a 20 year bourbon age quicker. But I read in Whisky Advocate (in different article when they interview major distillers) that they knew whiskey was getting hot in the late 70's, early 80's.So doing the math, that is 33 years ago. You would think the storages would begin to ease, instead they seem to be getting worse. Somehow $$$ must be involved. But not sure of the logical and how it works. If every store got 20 bottles of Pappy 15 (as an example) instead of 2 bottles, they could sell it at $100 and people would be happy to get a bottle. nd2005
Could be, but the fact that this year's OFBB was just so dam good, certainly helped moved it faster, unlike in other years it was nice, but not bunker hoarding worthy.

ChainWhip
If your disappointments are disappointing then they aren't as disappointing as they should be. You should be happy about that. Hah! It's even more disappointing that my disappointments disappoint. But you're right - I'm happier now
sutton
Oh it's not going away, just changing labels.Dumped into something else I'm sure, no longer distinguishable, but certainly at more than $18 per 1.75L (guaranteed).
TLH-Mike
TunneTiger,Still new to the sipping art here, buy my biggest personal bourbon disappointment of the year was also...Devils Cut. mosugoji64
Can't say that I was disappointed with anything I bought or tried this past year. I think the big boys are putting out some good stuff overall. Of course, I was a little disappointed not to get any WLW or FRLE this year but that's the market we're in now and they'll be back next year, anyway. I'm in agreement with others here that the loss of age statements and some treasured labels is disappointing, but it's hard to get too choked up when there's so much good stuff readily available on the shelf. Just stay in touch with the good folks here, steer clear of the NDP stuff, and you'll be fine. Sent from my Kindle Fire using Tapatalk
WhiskyRI
Stagg Jr - I wanted it to be so much better than it was. Hoping time will help it. Also disappointed that the world has discovered Bourbon. I don't like paying significantly more for lesser quality bourbon.

bucky1
Disappointed that at a local liquor store BTAC/Pappy "random" drawing more than one person put their name in the box more than 1 time…and got drawn. Mob rules though…they didn't get a second bottle. Appreciated the guy that got drawn and said that his wife had been drawn previously and passed on a second bottle. theglobalguy
Disappointed that social media has turned the "car shot" into a thing. Only product I can speak ill of is the Crown Royal Maple....it's been 8+ months and if I close my eyes I can still taste the spoiled Aunt Jemimah profile.
