Brisko
I think just having the 6 is more deceptive than say, "Old number 6" or whatever. This is more along the lines of Old Ezra with a "90" on the necker and actually being 80 proof. My biggest disappointment so far is the recent discontinuation of Very Old Heaven Hill 8/86 in Minnesota. I realize that it only effects a few of us here, but keep in mind we don't get VOB anyway.
HighInTheMtns
I guess my disappointment of the year is that whatever teetotaler orders whiskey for the State of Utah dropped the ball and didn't place an order for Van Winkle or BTAC.... Right after Old Rip 10/107 got added to the state list. Sigh.

fricky
My biggest disappointment was the current version of Pappy van Winkle 15 yr. Fortunately, I was able to taste some before I wasted my money on a bottle.

Kalessin
My biggest disappointment of the year was being totally out of "fun money" and seeing three bottles of OFBB 2013 in the special-bottle cabinet at a favorite store. They were gone when I stopped in a week later. Carpe diem, indeed.
fishnbowljoe
Tomorrow is Christmas. There are numerous threads on this site that have just been beat to death with post after post saying the same thing over and over, oft times by the same individuals. Yet in the Happy Holidays thread, only five members have responded to wish their fellow members here a Merry Christmas. To me, that's a big disappointment. Cheers and Merry Christmas! Paddy
The loss of AAA10, OC10 and age statements. But I'm an optimist, so here's to a 2014 full of barrel proof wonders and joy!
bourbonfoot
For me it's EC21 easily. I'm a big, big fan of EC12 and ECBP might be my favorite of the year. I didn't expect a revelation from EC21, but I didn't expect to dislike it as much as I did either. Fortunately it was a gift and I appreciated the sentiment wholeheartedly. tanstaafl2
keep it for a few years. dribble it out slow. you might think different on revisits. one can only hope! But I am a year plus in on an EC 20 and so far no improvement. So not much chance I will gamble on a 21. Too many other expensive whiskies that will disappoint to waste my money on!!! Merrymash Monk
My biggest disappointment was a bottle of Old Overholt. Thought this was supposed to be a good classic rye and maybe it was at one time. It wasn't offensive, it was just bland- like vodka with a little sugar and food coloring added. Tried to use it in cocktails but decided it was just a waste of alcohol. This stuff (and a bad scotch blend) is the only whiskey I've ended up pouring down the sink. So not much chance I will gamble on a 21.Too many other expensive whiskies that will disappoint to waste my money on!!! EC18 already had the reputation of being a bit over the top woody and overaged, depending on the bottle. And that was at $45 bucks. I have passed up the 20 and 21 several times. Just can't justify that price point.

Merrymash Monk
Not able to find and buy 2013 Stagg Sr. Got 2 bottles of Stagg Jr.I think part of the enjoyment of the BTAC is the hunt itself. So I can understand your disappointment in not scoring Stagg Sr. But as far as I'm concerned there's no need to feel too disappointed with those 2 bottles Jr. I'd be more than happy to share in your disappointment if you'd like to send me one of them.
squire
My biggest disappointment was a bottle of Old Overholt. Thought this was supposed to be a good classic rye and maybe it was at one time. It was good, it was a classic, then it changed. The BIB statement was dropped, it became 93 proof, then 86, now the legal minimum of 80. Age was gradually reduced until now it's measured in months rather than years.Sad really, and a prime example of what happens when the "age doesn't matter' and "our customers prefer lower proof anyway" crowd get their hands on a once proud brand.
