Dude I was right with you for the longest time. Just couldn't make myself like anything FR. It was just too floral for me. Then one day the light bulb just went off. All of the sudden I got this pronounced spiced honey flavor that I just couldn't get enough of. In the past 3 months I have bought about 15 bottles of various FR recipes and limited edition stuff. I just can't get enough and it's some of my favorite stuff out there.

Doug, I know you aren't big into wheaters, but I got into Four Roses immediately after I realized I liked high rye recipe stuff. Their gift shop stuff is untouchable IMO as something you can get year round. One day I'll come to louisville with a suitcase of FR and I'll tie you to a chair and make you like it

you bring whatever 4R you want, I'll bring the Dickel 9 and Booker's......we'll try to see each others' perspectives!

Went out with a large group for a friend's b-day, and they had a reasonably priced and fairly well optioned bourbon selection. I thought I would give Four Roses another chance, and ordered a 4RSmB neat. I know I am going to get slammed for this, but I just do not get it. To me, its like bourbon steeped in rose petals with a little licorice thrown in. It was between this and MM46. I wish Id gone with the MM46. Normally, Id have gone with the Bookers, but I have that at home already

Git ya sum! Then, come back and tell us you don't like Four Roses.

I know being less than complimentary about 4R on here is about as well liked as dog references with a certain religion........but it's gonna be quite a while before I pay for another 4R product.

To each his own, right?

I try to do a ton of convincing bc I'm always scared I will turn someone onto my brand, but FR is humming along and cranking out top notch stuff that we are spoiled to get our hands on. I will message next time I'm in Louisville (was actually there today to see my wife run the last 100 yards of a 5k, stop at 2 boring liquor stores, and eat qdoba)

Funny, Doc, just before I got to your post I poured some private barrel selected AS 1792. This has one of the best noses in bourbon, and goes down so smooth. Reminds me a bit of 4R1B, with the velvety mouth feel and smooth heat.

Yes, 4R gets lots of love on SB, but I've always thought that it's a specific, tight and focused flavor profile. I love it, but it's not for everyone's taste. My main Bourbon taster/friend is not a 4R fan, but we agree on just about everything else. YMMV.

I grew into loving them. Thought SmB and SB were definite "meh" pours when I had them. Then, later this year, I had a SB from a different town I picked up on a lark and it was basically everything I wanted in bourbon. I have two SBs open right now and they are night and day, one honey and singing high notes, the other one fiery and full of gruff rye and char, barking at you. I love them like disparate children.

My thoughts on "when I hate music on the first listen it'll be the stuff I love forever" are starting to apply themselves to appreciating bourbon, apparently. But I think there's enough variation in their products and special releases to surprise you even when you've written it off.

But, back to the point, I'm having some OHH BIB. Doesn't seem to get much love around here, but I adore it. I like it much more than the EW BIB. And I had a big pour of ECBP earlier, night's about to get interesting.

Love how all of the FR talk made it so michaelturtle's ORVW 15 didn't even get a response. I, for one, was mighty jealous.

Oh, it was noticed. It just made me think of all the times I used to pass it up for about $45 at Spec's because I had never tried it and preferred to stick with what I knew.

...so, yeah. Just a little jealous.

Yup. We are jealous of Michael! Orvw15 is my "first love" for bourbon.

One month years ago, I gulped down three bottles!

Would love to find some more of these.

a couple of pours of 1792. Don't think I need to bunker the 8 year AS stuff, but its still a decent pour

I do have a private selection bottle as well. I remember the sample I had at the store as being much better than the standard bottle I am drinking from right now.

FRSmB 2013 this afternoon, love it

I like the word "afternoon" there. I was just thinking to myself, "Is it too early for bourbon?" I said yes and got a beer instead but now I'm rethinking it...

Enjoying the penultimate pour of a TPS OWA. This bottle started real tight, but opened up over time into something subtle and tasty. I'll be splitting the back-up into 2 bottles and letting 'em sit for a couple months.

Had some McKenna SB BiB last night. I get this bitter after taste that is just not doing it for me. This bottle's still about 3/4 full after 6 months. Moved on to some OGD114 after.
