What bourbon are you drinking? Summer 14

Had a visit from fellow SBer qman22 last night.

Enjoyed a few cigars, and tasted through far too many things for a Monday night. First release Booker's, Wild Turkey Japanese Tribute and Tradition, GTS 2010, WLW 2013, PHC4, HHSS, Blanton's Straight From the Barrel, some Old Scouts, and Very Old Scout, some bespoke blends of straight from the barrel Four Roses and Old Scout, and probably something I'm forgetting. 2am is too late to stay up on a school night. Certainly a great time!

What a lineup, Josh! Everything on that table looks absolutely fantastic. Hope you guys enjoyed yourselves!

The only thing that seemed outmatched was the WLW13 actually. Everything else was top notch. The cigars blunted the fine details obviously, but it was fantastic tasting so many profiles in relatively quick succession. The GTS is such a dark chocolate truffle of a pour, the PHC4 and HHSS make a phenomenal SBS with the sweetness of the cognac finish adding some depth, especially to the finish. The new Old Scouts are both 11 years old and absolutely delicious. Jawbreaker leads with a tight sweetness and expands like a hollow point to a huge spice finish that lingers. FS/FT shows more balance and has some candy apple and cherry on the nose and palate. Blanton's from the barrel has become a favorite of mine, as I've always loved that recipe, and the uncut bottle gives me exactly what I'm looking for. I'm not the biggest WT fan, but these are maybe the two best that I've had, the Tradition especially seems off profile and less woody than I'm used to older turkey showing. Old Booker's is damn good, but it's Booker's. Totally recognizable flavor profile.

Nice summary Yeti...Of all the fabulous pours last Sampler my first taste of Blanton's from the barrel was probably my biggest thrill. Crying shame it's not sold in our wonderful USA. Oh, also agree on the WLW 13...something about it just fails to please.

Lock, Stock and Barrel 13yo rye. I've never really experienced a whiskey like this. This is the third night in a row I've poured a glass. Its been a lot of fun exploring. Night one, I could tell it was unique, but the long pine/resin finish was something else. Definitely a bit of an acquired taste, but I've well on my way to acquiring it. :grin: I find the nose to be very complex, and is well served by taking an hour or so over a single pour. It moves between a burnt caramel popcorn, to light fruits, hints of mint and spicey tobacco. I was lucky to get this one very cheaply.

Agreed, great notes Yeti and thanks! I've reached out to a friend who lives in Cayman for a feeler on Blanton's Straight from the Barrel. I'm pretty sure I saw it sitting in duty-free at that particular airport but I wasn't acquiring anything at the time. Would like to avoid the import premium from the UK shops if I can manage.

I had some McKenna 10 year old BIB Single Barrel Sunday and I must say it was damn tasty. I was very pleasantly surprised. Will be getting more of this.

had some ECBP batch #2 last night over an ice sphere. Super hot stuff! but calmed down a bit and had some great muted chocolate notes under some strong oak. Finished with a small pour of Parker's POH - notice its definitely losing the floral in it the longer its open.

ER 10 yr star neckband. Been alternating with an ER 10yr SB (all on neckband) and can't really tell a difference other than what you'd expect from different SBs from the same house. They are pretty close imho.

Rare, mid-week pour. Long week, decided to treat myself. SB Blend (OWA 3:1 WL12). Added a small tip of WL12 just to add a little more wood and tame the alcohol. Dropped in a few small cubes and it is awesome! Slightly chilled, woody and sweet cherry.
