Rewarded myself for fixing the bathroom today - PHC6, Stagg '13, and ECBP. I should start fixing more things around the house perhaps.

Started the evening with a small pour of R.L. Seales 10 year Rum to get the palate going, then Four Roses Private Selection OBSK 58.4% aged 9 years 7 months, Springbank 15, and then a combo dram of 1/2 Springbank 15 and 1/2 Longrow 11 year Shiraz Cask.

The reason I did the combo was to bring a bit of spice and peat to the refined Springbank 15. I like it a lot! I think if I try it again I will back the Longrow off to 1/4 of the "malt blend".

Nicely done, Jazz Nut. RL Seale's 10yr is near the top of my shopping list when I get back to the US next month.

Started out with Blanton's, then EC23, then some ER10 SB; all while watching some Walking Dead and Homeland. It was a good night.

After a morning wake up with OGDBIB spent a nice afternoon & evening sipping on KCSB. Why a year ago this did not appeal to me I know not but this is my third bottle and I do enjoy it.

First pour from a bottle of Barterhouse I picked up a few weeks ago. Very potent on the nose initially but it settled down after a few minutes in the glass.

Taylor Tornado while I look over the Halloween decorations I am setting up. I'm hoping that the caldron of boiling skeletons will scare a tyke, or two...:D. The whiskey is very good. Nice chewy woodiness to it.

Shared a pour of HHSS#2 with my dad. I still find it great. He isnt used to the high proof. After his ice melted a little he enjoyed it much more, finding each sip better than the last. He wanted more, but had to drive so he abstained.

Had a short pour from a bottle I scooped last fall at the EW Experience in L'ville. A 'Jockey Club' pick (if I remember correctly) of EWSB, Green Wax. This stuff is so good it's scary. Very typical HH: after a fabulous nose; minty, toasted-oaky, caramel, brown sugar, vanilla, even a hint of maple syrup. I wish I had a couple cases of this stuff.

Our last night in China and I finally found some bourbon to drink. We've either been staying with friends who only have beer on hand or staying in hostels that only have JD. Tonight we're in a hotel in Shanghai that has Beam White Label. It doesn't get any love here and I certainly don't keep any on hand in my cabinet, but I have to tell you that when you've been dry for two weeks straight, JBW is a cool drink of water in the oasis. I've never enjoyed it more.

Sounds like just the right length of trip. You made it to fonder, without getting to wander.

Not bourbon - Bernheim "Aged 7 years" wheat whiskey. The bourbon will come later in a Bourbon Cider cocktail a la Jennifer Pittman of Louisville, KY's Proof on Main as memorialized in the August (? No. 141, anyway) 2011 edition of Saveur magazine.

I'm really enjoying a pour of a PS Angel's Envy from one of my favorite retailers. What I enjoy about this particular bottling is the explosion of dark fruit on the finish. The port wine finishing just peeks out on the nose but I really have to go hunting for it. Over the palate I even begin to question if there was any finishing done here at all. It's even bordering on a drying vanilla and oak, rickhou...then...BAM! Thick ripe plum, strawberry jam, and marmalade goodness. Wow! And, it chewingly lingers for a good long while. Really delectable whiskey. One of my recent favorites.

Tried a pour of ER10 but just couldn't do it... Love the nose but the finish just kills it for me. Moved on to SAOS

After struggling with network issues at home for the last couple of hours, finally got it working again. Damn, why do home wifi networks just go crazy with no apparent warning. Anyway, celebrating a return to connectivity with a pour of a private selection of Jefferson's Very Old, Very small batch bourbon. As a private barrel selection, not sure how the very small batch fits into the picture, but this bottle has started to grow on me. Its a subtle pour: smooth with a nice blend of spice, vanilla and a touch of heat.
