jwacky
Don't see a thread about this. Any thoughts out there yet on this year's release? I'm excited about this one since I've really enjoyed Dry Fly's cask strength wheat, and I also enjoy Bernheim. Added bonus with the PHC of the extra age. WAINWRIGHT
I actually just had the opportunity to try this over the weekend and first impressions I'm quite impressed.Truth be known I had this as my third pour of the evening so a fresh palate is definitely in order before any final decisions are deemed. bicktrav
I've heard fantastic things. Have a bottle reserved and am eager to get it.
tigerlam92
The comment on this is all over the place. I have no idea what to think but will be trying it soon. It's on hold for me and option to pick up more. We'll see. At the moment I fear I won't like it but hoping I'll be mistaken.

I don't particularly like the Bernheim standard version. But the Parker's is really really good. Tried it SBS w WLW '14 and the Weller was the winner but not by much(and this year's WLW is better than the '13 by a long stretch). If you like wheated bourbon-and I know you do-you will like this version of wheat whiskey.
tigerlam92
Eric, that's great to know! Yup, I didn't like the std Berheim wheat whiskey and was afraid it's like that. PHC hasn't disappoint so far. Excited now. Thanks
jwacky
I was lukewarm on standard Bernheim but I LOVE the cask strength wheat whiskey from Dry Fly. Can't wait to crack my bottle of PHC8, just gotta finish up another bottle or two to make room, haha.
ModernThirst
I'm in a similar boat to you guys...the bernheim is just okay...good enough for sipping by the pool in the summer (sort of light and sweet). But I LOVE the Parker's. I'm on the hunt for more bottles at the moment. One of my favorite releases this year.
bicktrav
So excited to try this one. Everyone seems to be going nuts for it. I also feel like PHC just doesn't misstep.
Jiggity
I just picked up 3 of these. 2 for me and 1 for a fellow SBer. I tried this at whiskeyfest, but my taste buds were shot by the time I got to this release. I'm hoping to try it again soon, but I must thin out the herd first. And for those of us who like the real dirty whiskey porn, here's a shot of the three way: ...I have NO idea what is happening inside that ECBP box either...hopefully making more ECBP. tigerlam92
Just had my first pour. Definitely much better than I fear. Will spend more time with this. Going for a second pour now.
jeffrey r
Just a little PSA. I came across 4 bottles earlier in the week at two different stores, and bought one. Haven't even opened up the first bottle yet, but went back to pick up a second bottle tonight, and the other bottles were gone. This was at $99/bottle. It may be premature, but methinks this release is getting a lot more buzz than the last couple of releases, and may get snapped up. Time will tell, but if you want a bottle, I say buy it when you see it.
mosugoji64
Actually had a nightmare last night about calling a liquor store to find out when this is coming to AZ and finding out it has already gone. Still haven't seen it anywhere. bourbonfoot
Just opened mine and it was much hotter than I anticipated. Not a bad thing at all though. It's only been one pour but I feel like this is gonna be a special whiskey.
sob0728
My favorite whiskey I have had this year. Preferred this over '14 GTS and Booker's 25th. The nose is ridiculously great.
jeffrey r
My favorite whiskey I have had this year. Preferred this over '14 GTS and Booker's 25th. The nose is ridiculously great.I haven't compared the PHC Wheat to those other two, but it is a fantastic whiskey and release. Yes, the nose is just caramel, toffee, sweet goodness. And the taste backs up the nose, but then brings even more complexity to the table.Despite the thread or two ongoing on SB, discussion seems pretty quiet so far though. I gather people are still seeking this out...? Edited November 3, 2014 by jeffrey r

tanstaafl2
I haven't had PHC8 yet but other than that, I think you are spot on. PHC1-4 were/are exceptional.A lot of people are perhaps not as comfortable with finished bourbon as I am but I certainly thought the fifth one, the Cognac finished bourbon, was a worthy member of this group (and helped give birth to the beautiful HHSS bottlings!). The second one, the 27yo Bourbon, was certainly unusual which helps make it exceptional but it was a different whiskey that tended towards those that like very mature bourbon. But I don't think it was as good a regular drinking whiskey as the sixth, the Blend of Mashbills, which I thought was also excellent. I haven't been disappointed with any of them.
