I don't think posting tasting notes on it is thread jacking. Post them here!

This was just released in Virginia. I liked it a lot at the Bourbon Affair so picked up a bottle. I am not disappointed. The super thick, velvety mouth feel is there, one of the thickest I've had outside of dusties in awhile. The nose is a lot of vanilla with spice and oak coming through. On the tasting vanilla comes through followed by spice and then a nice oakiness at the end. Definitely oak in this one but I don't think its overoaked. A long dry finish with the oak lingering. This is a really nice bourbon. The low proof doesn't hurt it at all in my opinion. Glad I picked it up. May get a second actually. Even at $150.

$150 seems to be the going rate for all WT LE's.

Glad you enjoyed it and posted notes but will be a pass for me.

I love WT and want this....but $150 is more than I'll pay for any currently available bourbon, that's some serious change....more tasting notes, anyone?

i was very interested in this but not very interested in the price given the quality of wild turkey special editions lately. rather than go all in on a bottle or expensive pour at a bar i talked my local whiskey group into doing a group bottle split.

gotta say, it's way better than any turkey release i've had from the last 5 years or so. of course that is not saying much but whatever, i like it. sort of reminds me of stuff bottled 10-15 years ago especially given the chewy mouthfeel. i can't recommend buying a whole bottle unless $150 doesn't really matter to you but it's definitely worth seeking out a taste. no way i see this lasting on the shelves like diamond.

Feel as though I should put my money where my mouth is on this one since I speculated that a low but barrel proof whiskey could still be a good thing!

Tried a bit last night and shared with another GBS/SBer who tried it blind (no knowledge of what he was drinking at all until afterwards. I will let him share his own thoughts if he chooses!). I think it has a good, rich mouthfeel but certainly not the richest oily mouthfeel for a whiskey that I have had. I found relatively modest oak influence on the palate with only a bit more developing through the finish. A really interesting herbal quality with a very nice hint of cherry on the palate. I definitely liked it better than the Diamond Anniversary. I know, faint praise...

Is it $150 worth? No, not really. Maybe $100 tops would make it a bottle I would look harder for but that is pretty unrealistic in todays market I suppose. But it is a really nice pleasant drinking whiskey and I don't particularly find that I miss the proof as I do with most standard 86-90 proof bottling's which typically taste thin and watery. Of course I wasn't tasting it blind so I may have been influenced by the label. Definitely look forward to trying it a few more times perhaps in a blind tasting with several other bottles for comparison. The cherry note was particularly distinctive and interesting I thought.

Glad to see this getting some decent reviews on here.

Of course I haven't seen it in Texas (and originally didn't expect to), but I think one store is getting some and I should have a shot at one.

I am not sure it is truly old style Wild Turkey but I also know I haven't had enough old style Wild Turkey in the recent past to say for sure. It seems to be it's own "rare breed"...

I would love to have a Tradition, American Spirit or Distillers Select to compare this to but alas I do not.

It certainly seems to bear little in the way of close familial traits with the GBS Russell's Reserve although I hope to try them SBS soon.

Hmmm. I like the ones with cherry notes. I think you're right -this one would have been cool at 100.

I look forward to tasting this bourbon. Anytime barrel proof is less than 100, I want to taste it. Some of you may recall Four Roses 40th Anniversary barrel proof. Some were less than 100 and they were excellent. Most know that old bourbon is essentially gone. When it is available, it will not be cheap. Although $150 is high, I will probably pay that, if I can find a bottle.

All excellent points, Doug. The cash outlay is significant, even in these times. But, if I'm going to pay this kind of money (unless I'm having one of my Whiskeria Nervosa seizures :D), I want the bourbon to be special in some way. This whiskey does that for me, and in more than one way. It has age, a very interesting and rare out of the barrel proof, and I'm not so jaded to admit...a very attractive package. The low barrel proof remains the primary hook for me, and as an enthusiast, I look forward to seeing what it's all about.

I've only had a few quick sips from my bottle, but so far I can say it's very nice. Once I spend some quality time with it, I'll hang out a review.

This whisky may well be good, Hell, some may consider it great, but I ain't paying that kind of scratch for a bottle of hooch to find out no matter what sort of maidens by moonlight story is behind it.

I've really enjoyed mine too. Not necessarily BECAUSE it chaps squire's ass but that doesn't hurt either.

I missed the maiden's in moonlight story. Where can I find that?

As a relative newbie compared to most of you guys, I've been known to get overly excited about anything limited and/or considered to be special to the point of hunting around and being willing to part with serious cash no questions asked. I've had enough misses and unremarkable $150 bottles of whiskey at this point that I'm just unexcited about this. I'll appreciate others thoughts here and will taste it at a bar if it's not overpriced (it probably will be).

Now if I try it and really really like it........well then.......I can still be weak.

For me it wasn't so much the unremarkable $150s as it has been the remarkable $30s...

Well, yes......there is that factor too. There's also the membership in the 4R cult. When one has a growing collection of PS bottles, even at the new higher price, it gets harder and harder to fall prey to the Orphans and other bourbons of that ilk.

As we tend to do here, we beat this topic to death and we are still beating it. We know it is expensive, we know it is low proof, we know some people like it, some people do not like it, some will buy it, and some will not. Isn't it time to move to another controversial topic and beat it to death?

Actually, I am waiting for more people who have tried it to weigh in. I'm interested to hear their thoughts. There haven't been many posts on this thread from people who have actually tried it. I plan to open my bottle in the next week. I will post my initial thoughts and then, if there is still interest, I will post some follow-up thoughts as the bottle opens up.
