Average # of bottles in your bunker?

I have some advice for you Harry. Sell your car and buy an SUV. In may not be as well hidden, but the back of an SUV holds a lot more bourbon.  And yes I speak from experience on that one. They didn't call my old Aztek the bourbon mobile for nuthin'.

Did you know that the 2015 Jeep Cherokee Latitude has this "shelf" underneath the deck area behind the rear seat that has bins suitable for carrying up to fifteen (15!!!) 750mls where NOBODY even knows they are there????  I do.  My wife doesn't.  She thinks there's a spare tire in there.  Well, there is, but it is UNDER the shelf with the bins.  My Momma didn't raise no fool.

LMAO Harry!  I stand corrected sir. I didn't really have quite that kind of storage in my Aztek, but I do now. We bought a new van a few months ago, and I "inherited" my wifes Kia Sorento. I don't keep any bottles in my hidden bins, but I will say that just maybe a few bottles might have found there way in there at one time or another.

Um, if the newer Jeeps, BMW X1s, Nissan Pathfinders, Acura MDXs all have this "hidden" tray suitable for bunkering, how long will it be before ALL SUVs and Crossovers have them?  OTOH, as I've posted in the past, bunkering in cartrunks does have a downside - yet again I thought I had space in there only to find, when I lifted the storage area cover, I found several bottles I'd forgotten I'd put in there.

I try to keep my bunker between 25 to 30 bottles.  I sometimes get as high as 40 bottles and sometimes as low as 20.  I buy to enjoy and share.  Sure, I have some hard to find bottles that I have held in reserve but generally, I buy and open at some point.

26 open and 18 in the bunker. I would consider 4 bunkered bottles to be "on deck". Most of my open bottles are once a night sippers and I have a handful of daily sippers. I find it difficult to limit the open bottles because I'm relatively new (2+ years) and constantly looking for bottles to try.

I have probably 110-120 bottles of various brown aged spirits set aside, though I don't think more than a third of it is bourbon.  Most is malt whisky of one origin or another, with a few choice bottles of brandy and rum as well.  That's not to say I don't drink plenty of bourbon, it's just that most of the bourbon I drink these days isn't especially difficult to come by.  Due to the extreme frustration and difficulty inherent in replacing anything rare right now, I am hesitant to open more than one bottle of something special at a time.  That limit galls me every now and then, but at least my favorite distilleries seem to be doing just fine keeping up with demand for the regular stuff that I love.

Well, including the 3 bottles of Rebel Yell Single Barrel I picked up yesterday, I have 132 bottles - and that's after being in this "hobby" for precisely one year!  4 are open at this time.

Downloaded the Airtable app last week and have entered about half of the bunker.   Count is at 68, so I probably have around twice that number.   I really like the app so far and the customization that it allows.  The ability to have a bottle picture in the spreadsheet is especially nice.   Having never before kept an inventory, I am quickly learning a few cold hard facts: 

1. I have amassed 10 bottles of OWA - no need to buy more any time soon:(

2. How did I manage to buy 4 bottles of OB Gifted Horse - yikes!

3. Found a bottle of Michter's US1 - where did that come from?

 

With any luck, I may finish up the inventory this weekend.    I have already decided to keep the wife from seeing the end results.

After reading through this thread, I decided to check out the bunker.  I really should get the app.  I found a WT Forgiven I'd forgotten I'd bought, a dusty bottle of Tom Foolery bourbon to go with the one I bought last week, and two KC ryes which look just like the 1/4 full one I bought in September since I'd "never bought any" or so I thought.  I didn't complete the inventory - I'm afraid of what might be lurking on the lower shelves behind the power tools.

Just checked and a quick count of just Bourbon was eight. Got a bunch of other stuff and their might be a bottle or two I missed in the back. No lights in the bottom of the cabinet.

Last count was 140ish bottles in the bunker, I'd say 65% bourbon to 35% scotch.

Took a quick inventory.  May have missed a bottle or two.  Bourbon & Rye: I have approx. 40 bottles with 15 different open bottles.

I have about 3 or 4 bottles of Scotch and they are all open.

I finished inventory of the bunker and learned I have 111 bottles including the 2 I picked up today.  I suspect I will need to drink through many of them in the next 4 years no matter who wins tonight.
