EW BIB and WT101.  RE: the Evan Williams - For some reason, I STILL like HH BIB 6yr better and like EW Black (86 proof) better than the EW BIB.  But, at least once a year, I buy an EW BIB (AKA EWW, I guess since it has a white label) just to check.  RE: the WT101 (Hi, Paul); I just needed it.

SAOS for 33.99

Passed on the saos 10, contradiction, rendezvous, kcsb, and 1792 store pick single barrel, because at the prior rate of purchasing I would have bourbon for life in short order.

I picked up Old Forester Signature from a different store than last time.  I'm hoping this one is closer to what I'd come to expect.  Last batch tasted like they put a lot younger whiskey in there.

Stopped at a store on the way home from Chicago yesterday. Bought a liter bottle of Weller SR.

Cheers! Joe

WHOA!!!!    That is an excellent deal!     You might consider leaving one for the next fella, though.    Good Karma to be considerate in that way, unless you expect the shelf to be refilled next week.....

Good call on that my friend!!!

Picked up a Four Roses Store Pick that was done by a private group in the area.  Very good bottle.

^That's a good price for the SAOS.

I figured it might not be around forever, so I would pick that one up. I'm trying not to pick up anything new, but it is fast becoming a favorite, and I only have the one open bottle.

Got a Seasoned Wood today at MSRP.  Will wait to do a SBS with Cured Oak with my friendly enabler when he returns from Italy.

Will be interesting to know what you think of the two.

I initially thought of CEHT Cured Oak to compare the Seasoned Wood to but eventually decided against it. They seem to be pretty different from one another. Cured Oak was reported to be a 17yo rye bourbon with the barrel staves air dried for 13 months which is at least twice as long as normal. That made things like Eagle Rare 17, another similarly aged rye bourbon from the same mashbill and somewhat similar proof and the BTEC 15yo Extended Stave bottle from last year seem more similar. The BTEC might even be essentially the same whiskey but just a bit younger.

But Seasoned Wood is a wheated mashbill (a new and unique one for BT? Or is it the Weller mashbill? It wasn't completely clear based on what I have read about it) that is made with barrel staves treated three different ways (to include a lovely warm "enzyme bath") and "aged "well over a decade". I have no idea what that means, particularly in the PR-ese speak of the current bourbon world. Is that more than a year over a decade? Two? Five? Beats me!

So anywho, I decided to compare it with fellow wheaters Weller 12 and Larceny, rather than the Cured Oak.  Well, I found it to be perfectly serviceable (unlike some reviews which did not find it to be particularly good) I thought the Larceny in particular to be about as enjoyable at less than half the price.

I picked up a couple bottles of Eagle Rare 10.  One store says they can't get any and another  store had 3 cases.  :o. I think it makes a good "house" bourbon.

Not sure what to expect from the Seasoned Wood.  The SBS is more to share with a whiskey manager who has been willing to help get these for me than an exploration of their profiles.  If I remember high school chemistry, enzymes break down molecules and speed up reactions.  I am assuming that BT is trying to make the whiskey "age" quicker.  Better life through chemistry!  Would love to have an opportunity to try the same juice aged in a traditional barrel versus the treated barrel.  I have a 10 YO experimental wheated mash bill.  Now that sounds like the the third bottle for the tasting...

In the last week or so I picked up a few bottles.  Russell's Reserve Single Barrel 110, Bookers (130.4), and just today lucked out finding a Smooth Ambler Old Scout Single Barrel 10 yr (118.6).  Had to ask for it, and others, since I was told they hide the more rare bourbons behind the counter to keep the flippers at bay.

I've been on a barrel proof kick lately.  Love the full mouthfeel and complex, powerful nose, palate, and finish they offer.

Booker's Bluegrass Batch and Smooth Ambler Old Scout 7yr Rye. Love the 7yr bourbon so I figured I'd give the rye a spin.

came across some old charter with the 8 year age statement on the bottle, so decided to pick it up and try it out.  did a sbs with an old charter 8 nas and while they both tasted different from each other, I didn't think one was better than the other.

Picked up a case of HH6BIB, 4 OF BIB, Bulleit Barrel Strength (not sure why since i haven't liked anything Bulleit so far...), and a Makers 46 Select Barrel #2 from LB - tasted this one prior to buying and it was pretty good

Cousin gave a bottle of Jim Beam 200th Anniversary from back in 1995 as well so I'm having a pretty good week here in KY

Picked up a bottle of Knob Creek. It's been a while since I've had a bottle of this one at home.

Had to restock the daily drinkers plus a couple of others. Between yesterday and today I've picked up 2 Blantons for $47 each, 2 Stagg Jr's for $45 each. 1 Woodford Reserve Derby 1ltr for $37, 1 4R small batch for $24, WSR for $17 and a Barrel Bourbon batch #2 for $80.

That should take care of me for a few weeks

Ordered a couple Colonel Taylor small batch on the VA ABC website. Seems to be the only way to get it here.

Damn I just can't help myself......old grand dad bonded for 21.99 haven't tried this before.  Also snagged a larceny for 24.99 which is sometimes hard to find around here.  Lastly a four roses yellow label to try over the weekend.  The shelf is getting full.  Trying now to hold off till the next bourbon of the month is posted.
