When I asked Brian Prewitt, MD at ASBowman, what "high rye" on this bottle means to him, he said their policy is to not disclose mashbills.  He suggested it was about 5% above the BT new make they receive for redistilling and aging (or at least I think that is what he was suggesting).  I like basic BT's sweetside, and I've always found VG, the Fox, and the recent ASB products to be "drier" than basic BT.

Interesting, he told me the High Rye was 5 times the normal amount of Rye, their press release says the same about this bourbon.  Speculation is/was that the low rye mashbill is 8%, in order to keep the 5X statement below 50

Whatever the mashbill ended up being it seemed like a perfectly serviceable $30-$35 bourbon (given todays price inflation) that I had a hard time hunting for and seeing the value in paying $70 for it! Needless to say it was not my favorite of the AB editions they have done lately. I would happily take more of the Touriga/Merlot finish they just released or the port finished bourbons from a while back.

Not everything is a success for every palate I suppose.

I finally caved and bought a Smooth Ambler 'Contradiction' (batch 16), though it seems over-priced for what it is.   Figuring price isn't the only criterion for judging a whisky experience, I went ahead and grabbed one that came my way.

Real true Michters' Original Sour Mash Whiskey from the original PA distillery in the 50's would be an interesting pour to try.

VAG - Well, these ears might have heard "five times" as "five per cent"; plus it's been awhile since that conversation (like, the week of the release, and I was at the distillery).  Frankly, I believe you, not me.  I know myself too well.

And Bruce (tans . . .), I had ordered two 375s of the Touriga/Merlot finish but only got one due to demand (I'm guessing - certainly not a clerical error).  I liked it but like you would buy more port finished or T/M finish if I had to choose between the them and the high rye at the same price per ounce.

Stopped at several stores during our spring break trip from Iowa to Asheville NC and back.

Binny's 4RSB PS OESV,

Party Source in Bellevue KY for HH6/90 (I had not found any HHBIB yet)

AAA 10 star at NC ABC store

WSR for a friend at work

ER10 store select in Iowa since we enjoyed it so much during the distillery tour tasting

4RSB PS OESF from the distillery gift shop

And finally, found HHBIB in Loiusville Lisqur Barn, so picked up 3.

(I'm trying to post a picture, but even cut down below 1 MB, it is not allowing me to add it.)

Grabbed a Barrell Bourbon Batch 006 and 3x age stated EC12 for the bunker while they still last.

Picked up a Smooth Ambler 8yr Haskell's store select, and a EWBIB.

First time trying the EWBIB. I'm on my second glass.  So far I like it, not too hot, it's sweet and easy to sip.  I bet it'll be good mixed in coctails too

I've got some from the 70s. Have yet to try it.

Found 8 bottles of Stagg Jr on store shelf for 46.99 and bought 2 since I haven't tried it or seen it before. Not sure if batch 5 - 64.85% 129.7 proof. Found a EC12 with red 12 figured stock up.

Yes, you picked up Batch 5, which is 129.7 proof.

Another ECBP Batch 9. A local store has them for $60 with a one bottle limit, but I think I am the only one buying them. I have been stopping in every Sunday for the last 3 weeks and grabbing a bottle.

Patience and a watchful eye can sometimes pay off. I was able to obtain (2) '15 4RLESmB's. Thought for sure I'd missed out but kept looking.

An acquaintance helped me out with a MM46 CS from the gift shop. Another friend found a Noah's Mill 15-13 (a honey batch of sorts) and sent one to me.

Russell's Reserve Single Barrel.  Haven't had any Russell's in a while and just couldn't pass it up.
