Worthy Park's version of Hampden Estate's Rum Fire except it is at a more approachable proof for the more delicate rum drinker at 100 proof.

 

And oddly it is bottled in Bardstown, KY. Heaven Hill doing the bottling perhaps? They do bottle a lot of brands!

As expected, the vintage bottle took the win. The modern release, although with a lower ABV-- was hotter, thinner, and sweeter. Although the delivery on the vintage liquid is very slow and the flavors are subtle-- it's far more complex and satisfying.

I had forgotten that the 2 base rums from Appleton are now called J. Wray for reasons only Campari can explain I suppose.

 
But not surprising the older version was better!

I traditionally pick up a 50ml El Dorado at my favorite NYC liquor store to drink during the 30+ block walk back to the hotel-- and have never bought a large bottle until today. I hope to see those guys soon.

The Velier is solidly funky. The OB from Worthy Park, while having a degree of grassy funk goodness, is less so and as noted is a bit thin at only 90 proof. But it is relatively affordable ($60's I think?) and likely much easier to find.

My first ever rum from Reunion. Nosing it immediately brought me back to my youth; opening a fresh pouch of Big League Chew. Can't say that I've tasted another rum like it-- gotta keep supporting Velier.

I think someone failed to completely empty the Cognac casks before the finishing process took place. This came across as so sweet that I pulled a "palm test" to check fo sugar-- it passed.
