The bottle difference is slight- the older ones have rounded shoulders and the newer ones have more 'faceted' shoulders. The contents are definitely different. On topic: the Orange County ABC stores still have full shelves of OGD114, priced at 29.99 My store has there shelf full as well. Although the only reason they are carrying it is that I requested it. When I bought the last bottle a few weeks ago the shelf stayed empty for a couple weeks and I feared the worst, but last week they restocked. The state website Warehouse Inventory Report shows zero cases left, but there were twenty-something a few weeks ago. Will be interesting to see if that number changes or if it gets de-listed. One clerk said that he doubts they will ever see it again, but what do clerks know?

Louisiana
I was told yesterday that more OGD114 is coming at a slightly higher price. Old Stock or New Stock? I have no idea?

This now comes up when you search for OGD 114 on NC ABC Website. Zero quantity in the warehouse, and a product code that no longer yields search results. What is on the shelf is it. OGD114 still shows up in the roster under Warehouse Stock Status ( click the ABC Stores and Boards tab near the top of the home page) but yes, shows 0 cases available. On a happier note, it does show some OWA107 on hand. Edited January 23, 2017 by DeltaAlphaVictorEasy

It shows up under warehouse stock, but until today it also showed up in the spiritous liquor brand locator, which lists all currently carried state items. Hopefully my local store will call to let me know he got a few of those OWA's! Edited January 24, 2017 by BDanner

justanuthercap
I got a call today from a lady who runs one of our local Publix Liquors, I had placed an order for a couple of OGD114 a few weeks ago and she said that she had been trying to order them for me and kept getting the old run around about stock levels. She was informed today that it no longer is able to be ordered through their system AT ALL. Oh, and I haven't seen a bonded locally in moths either and I have been looking, just an FYI. Bbstout
Essentially a barrel proof bourbon readily available in some markets for under $20...I'm amazed this is still on the shelves.
flahute
It returned to TW recently after a brief absence. Minnick asked Fred Noe about 114 at an event this past weekend and he said it's fate is not determined yet though it's safe for now.

Lepisto
At my local liquor store, I think the 114 got cleared by speculators. I say speculators rather than people who are bunkering to drink later because of something I noticed on the last bottle I found on the shelf. When I first heard the rumor, my local had about 16 bottles on the shelf. With curiosity, I kept track of the number of bottles each time I stopped by, to see how quickly they would disappear. They stayed on the shelf for a few weeks, and then were gone all at once. Well, gone except for 1 lonely bottle. I thought maybe someone was practicing good bourbon karma and leaving one last bottle for the next guy. A few more weeks went by and that sole bottle was still on the shelf, time after time. I knew the rumor was getting more credence and many people were talking about it, so it was weird that the bottle was not being picked up. Finally, on my most recent trip, I decided to take a closer look. It was then that I noticed that the little gold wax medallion/seal normally found on the front of the bottle was missing on this bottle. This led me to believe that someone cleared the shelf of "mint" bottles in hopes that after discontinuation, maybe in a few years, they would go up in value and could be sold. Someone who just wants to open and drink the contents would probably have cared less about the medallion or wouldn't have even noticed it. I thought about posting this in the "bourbon boom peak" thread, figuring that it was relevant there too. With this example, I'm not sure it has peaked. Whiskey Dick
one store told me he cant order anymore of it. another friend who likes it and has a friend who manages a store said the same thing. and these are KY stores. I had bought 10 and he bought 4 to bunker. a practically barrel proof bourbon at $25 was a steal. those days are over. well, at least until I finish the 10 bottles....in a decade or so. Bbstout
"Old Grand Dad" & "Pappy Van Winkle". Sound like very similar marketing terms to me. Put out OGD barrel proof or OGD12 and charge a premium...why not?

There was and is already an effort to build a premium market at a higher price with Basil Hayden so we may get OGD at an older age (if it has any age statement at all) or maybe, emphasis on maybe, a higher proof version but I think Beam will find it easier to attach a higher price to the Basil Hayden line than yet another massive price jump on an brand already closely associated with being a bargain whiskey. But only time, and the suits in Deerfield/Chicago (and Japan), will tell!

Perhaps Beam/Suntory is still deciding what to do with OGD114, but in Kentucky right now, the distributors do not have any in their inventory to sell, and the shelves are empty. Bookers used to sell for about 50% more than regular BH so my guess is MSRP of $199 based on the Bookers Rye price of $299.

Let's see, I can buy Beam green label 90 proof rye for maybe $22-23. For "artfully aged" NAS 80 proof rye whiskey, quarter cask finished (good way to hide young whiskey...) or not, anything over $25 will be a Bookers sized joke as long as they decline to provide any real details about it. I don't see myself being interested regardless of price. 80 proof......and, I don't think Beam makes good rye. I am guessing though that this will be the Beam rye mashbill with the OGD yeast. I'll stick with bulleit rye as a good go-to/cheap/available rye, and I can get it for $23. But that's just me. MGP set the bar for rye in my opinion
mosugoji64
Regular BH is hamstrung by the low proof and it looks like they've decided to sabotage the rye with the same limp ABV. If they decide to charge a premium for BHR, I'm sure we'll be seeing this on the shelf for some time
