kcgumbohead
Had probably the second to last pour for my last remaining original 4R 10 a JR selected OBSF, I LOVE this bottle and will miss it but damn what a benchmark it has set for future OBSFs. I then had a small pour of McKenna that I have been working through, my first, its OK, doubt I will replace it when empty. I guess I prefer the younger HH 100 proofers. I need a recipe and any special instructions for not poisoning myself, unless I can just use my standard recipe and let it sit indefinitely? http://altonbrown.com/eggnog-recipe/ I'd also never heard of it until a couple of years ago, and was pretty skeptical. This is the oldest batch I've had (and still have one more jar for after New Years), and it tasted perfectly fine to me (and more importantly, no illness after!) OT - celebrating Friday with a short pour of BT before dinner.

whiskeyagonzo
How do you like that glass? Considering those or Glencairns. I like it ok. It was a freebie at FR. It certainly hold quite a bit more than a glencairn. Typically use that or glencairn for bourbon. Copita for Scotch.
Charlutz
Started with some RY10 and liked it better than the first few pours out of the bottle which I've had open for about a month. Still not exceptional to me but I like it. Moved on to drowning some tears in a pour of Noe Secret.
jeffrey r
This guy.Three points about this Vintage 17. 1) The cork flat out broke tonight when I opened the bottle, but fortunately I was able to dislodge it without any cork getting into the bourbon. I keep forgetting to moisten corks on older bottles that have sat around awhile, and this is a pretty common result when I don't. 2) The V17 is as good as I remember--just love this stuff. Getting lots of cherries tonight, along with caramel, oak and vanilla. 3) I still rue the day several years ago that I came across 9 bottles of V17 at my local Total Wine at $63 apiece, I grabbed 6 bottles, and left 3 on the shelf. How the hell could I have bought 9 bottles? Well, I should have bought 9 bottles. I've drank 3 bottles, have this one open, and have only two unopened bottles left. And I don't think that my Total Wine has had one interesting bottle of bourbon since then. Anyway, I will enjoy these as long as I have them. Cheers. Kpiz
Finishing off a bottle of FRSB. This was an excellent barrel - kind of tastes like an incredibly strong old fashioned made with brown sugar.Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Saul_cooperstein
Barrell bourbon batch 006 tonight. Good but not great for my palate.
Kalessin
DW has been away on business for the whole week. I've enjoyed a few good pours over the week, SAOS7, RR1B Loch & Key store pick, Blantons Loch & Key store pick (so good!), ER10, and a sip of my precious FR Mariage 2009. Tonight was another pour of the Russell's Reserve, and a Manhattan made with Baby Saz, Cocchi Vermouth de Turin (a particular favorite), orange bitters, and a little maple syrup, garnished with three Luxardo cherries. Sweet and with plenty of vermouth, just the way I like it. Tomorrow, chores and housecleaning and a trip to the airport for pickup.
flahute
It's been a great night. And by that I don't mean anything having to do with limited editions. I started with a private barrel Russell's Reserve which is easily the best one of these I'ver ever tasted. Followed with the final pour of a Private Selection 4R OBSV. Following that with another Private Selection of OESK. It's a great night that did not require any chasing or camping out.

What is that? It is very strong. Think it's just the oak/vanilla mix. Certainly an interesting one.

The SB blend was created to mimic this. ORVW10 is likely going to be the closest but we all know how impossible that it. You might try the new Rebel Yell Single Barrel at 10yrs old and 100 proof. It's a wheater from Luxco (who got it from Heaven Hill).

Hop
Had a tasting of the 1792 High Rye last night - very good but I was surprised that being a high rye I didn't get more of the rye "bite" from it. A lot of fruit and sweetness and a very good pour. In fairness I had done a couple of very small pours (25ml) of BT and Blanton's prior but don't that influenced my taste buds toward the rye. I've tried bottles from 2 different barrels so far, and had different results. One barrel was really excellent, the other one is nothing special. Perhaps you just have a weaker barrel. Just a thought.
Kepler
Had WT101 at a Christmas party last night. It was a very weak party, the only other bourbon option was Bulleit (a lot of wine drinkers were there). Glad I brought the Turkey to save the day.
