I had a taste of this and liked it, but decided to pull the trigger on OGD114 (it's cheaper and older). I cannot really justify $50 for bourbon at this point. If I'm spending $50 I'm buying Booker's.

That's some smart shopping right there.

Cheaper, yes...Older? :skep:

Yeah, I'm not sure where you got the older part, but it's a better value for sure. Buffalo Trace (BP), aka Stagg Jr., is about 8 yr. while I'd guess that OGD 114 is probably close to 6yr.

Now having to pay $29.99 for OLD114 still beats StaggJr for $89.00, older or not.

I believe 114 is still in the 7-9 year range, either that or Beam has some fast aging hot spots in the warehouse space used to age it.

I was told recently by a Beam spokesperson that all the OGD ranged from 4-7 years, with the 114 being 6-7. It seems information out of distilleries is often wrong and contradictory. So I took it with a grain of salt. I'd probably get a different answer from the same person if I asked him tomorrow.

This would make sense to me since they dropped the age statement on Basil Hayden. If they don't have enough aged stocks to keep it at 8+, I doubt they'd be putting 8 or 9 year bourbon in a lower priced label. Who knows, though.

Of course Beam whisky is designed to age out between 6-8 years so who knows, I don't really care so long as it meets the profile.

The last bottle of OGD 114 I had certainly didn't disappoint, whatever the age.

Back on topic, Gentlemen :)

I found a bottle of Stagg Jr 134.4 proof in Winter Springs FL today @ $51.99 & couldn't pass it up.

I haven't tried the second batch yet but I do likes me the first one [emoji106]

I saw this at a couple stores this past weekend; one had it marked at $90, and another had it behind the counter next to a $140 ECBP; I didn't bother asking the price on the JR. I like it, but not enough to pay above MSRP.

I think the shine is wearing off on this one, as mentioned earlier in this thread.

It's on a lot of shelves where I shop.

I've spent more time learning to dance with this one neat, but I now think it has the most utility as a blender. When I'm on land next if I have time I'll work on that a little.

I had told myself that I MUST buy one every time in see one on a shelf. With the probability of jinxing myself, I now have numerous bottles bunkered and may have to rethink that statement.

Once again this illustrates how variable distribution can be. I have never once seen one of these on a shelf in the Seattle area and have had to resort to internet shopping to get any and yet we are swimming in ECBP here when others can't find it anywhere.

I find the Jr. tough to handle neat and it doesn't take water very well, but a little standard BT added to it and voila, it turns into a mighty fine pour.

Indeed. NEVER have seen an ECBP on the shelves here. :(

I was the same way earlier this year so I drank it quite a bit. But now I'm running low and of course it's nowhere to be found. Back to rationing.

Any significant difference between the batches? I know some said the second was better. How's the third in comparison?

Loved batch one, hated batch 2, let you know about batch 3 shortly.
