Was really excited when I found this 2.5 year old EWSB 2004 bottle. Not sure what happened but either the bourbon is corked or was improperly stored. Really stink but I'll probably have to dump this.

I believe he is referring to how long ago it was bottled as opposed to how long it was aged.

Yeah sorry it was a 2004 10yr old barrel that was bottled late 2014 that I bought from a somewhat ghetto LS this year.

Now I'm tracking. Sorry guys. I'm slow tonight.

My usual price point on bourbon is in the 25 to 30 range. Some are worth more and this one is lovely. Some that want to like bourbon but can't find any they like, often like this one. Ultra smooth. High rye lovers may think lacks a bit of character. If this was 30 dollars, this would be my everyday pour. Around here sometimes it can be hard to find. Worth seeking!

No problem my bad grammar can tend to cause confusion. Had really high expectations for this as they had a shelf of 2004 and 2005 barrels I intended to go through if I liked this one. I think I'm done with EWSB and will stick with HMCK10 and EC SB selections instead.

Sorry to hear you got a bad barrel. I gave up on this one when the age started dropping from 10ish down to 8ish years. But I though the 10yr old bottles, when you could find them, were safe.

Even so, the lower proof was alway a bit of a turn off. Given HH's challenges keeping up with inventory across their brands, this is one I wouldn't be sad if it went away. Save those barrels for better EC, HMcK, etc.

Not sure if it was a bad barrel, I think likely something happened. When I first opened it I smelled the cork and it was off, I think it's somehow corked or tainted in someway.

That being said no reason to bother with EWSB when there's HMCK10 EC 12yr I can find and single barrel picks of EC.

The dropping in age (which in the case of this label has resulted in a lesser quality bourbon, IMO) of the EWSB, has been a major disappointment for me.  I always anticipated and enjoyed each years release, and comparing and contrasting various vintages.  Some were extremely good.  I have had numerous of these younger/newer releases, and while not "bad" whiskey by any means, they have definitely lost their luster in comparison.  But like you Steve, I find solace in the availability of very good HMK and EC whiskey on the shelves, now.  I do hope though, that as stocks replenish, HH finds enough barrels to return the EWSB back to its previous lofty position.

Ditto on that Joe. I haven't had the earlier versions, but have had 2005-2008 vintages. I stopped buying with the last good 2008 barrel that I found. The 2009 is barely 8 years or just under depending on the barrel, so I've passed on it since HMK is better in many ways and still in the same price range.

I finally feel like I have enough Weller that I can try the SB blend aka poor man's Pappy. I have to say it's an incredible mix. Kudo's to this website and the guy that mixed it first. Thank you.

This is probably only available in Indiana. The first versions came out a few years ago from Heartland. They had a regular and cask strength .  They under estimated demand and sold everything and it's been at least two years since I have seen them again. This one is twice barreled. It's 90 proof and not at all hot. No water needed.  You can taste the barrel. It is well balanced and for 26 dollars it's quite good.

As a kid Spring Mill State Park was my absolute favorite place to visit. I can't believe there's a bourbon with its name sake. I obviously need to make a trip over there and visit the park and find that distillery. Thanks for posting that picture as I never would have known this existed.

Blanton's store pick plus a bowl of cookie dough ice cream here. It's a good pairing.

Before we were so rudely interrupted by a tornado warning, I had some MM, MM 46 and Weller Sr with Vosgar and JerseyDon.

Cheers! Joe

I've been enjoying this Four Roses yellow label.  I read on another thread here that some much older barrels go into making a batch.  It's a very nice pour for the hot humid weather.

Tonight's lineup was Stagg Jr. to get the evening started. That was quickly followed up by HH6yrBIB. Both hit the bullseye this evening for sure.,

I think it's actually distilled in Indianapolis.

I grew up about a mile from Spring Mill State Park. No idea this was a thing. Will track it down next time I'm in Indiana.
