Late pick from Park Avenue… didn't know about the Batch 02

one of the best peat/sherry combos I've had. Needs a touch of water I found, can be a bit sweet, but once it hits the right note it's incredible.

Saw the Yama 12 at a 'reasonable' price and thought I would one last time... also been hovering on the Allardice for a while.

I've been doing the same on the Allardice wondering if I will break before all that is left is regret.

Took a bit of walking around New York today-- but the weather was certainly nice. Apparently both the HP The Light and Longrow Red just landed this morning. A little heavy on the wine cask matured juice-- maybe tomorrow will bring some balance to the mix.

I'll have to keep my eyes out for that Deanston, as always looking forward to your notes on it. Having not seen it is it Cask Stregnth like the European release? My recollection is the PX 10 year which was CS here wasn't in other markets.

It's been a very respectable £73 / $100 for a little while, won't last long so I cracked!

It is cask strength-- 58.7%. It was on the shelf at both Park Avenue and Ambassador. I'm in Brooklyn now staring at a 2015 Supernova Commitee Release just gathering dust and a $119.00 Kentucky Owl Rye.

Well if you aren't going to pounce on the Supernova and wouldn't mind sharing I think it could find a home :)

Thanks to a LS recommendation from kevinbrink. Not sure how this 2016 K&L Wines PS landed in NYC-- but it's been one of those days. The color and the ABV (55.8%) made it hard to pass up.

Well thanks back to you @Marekv8 between your tips and a place I unfortunately realized I was in the neighborhood of nearby I put a sizable dent into my wallet, the Shackelton and the Bowmore were both the best prices I had seen on those by a wide margin.

Wassup with the tiki bottle?  Is there a story for the packaging?

It is a "Replica" of whiskey uncovered from Ernest Shackelton's journey to the Antarctic, if it wasn't about half the price I have seen it for I probably would have never picked up a bottle (it was in the Mid/high $80s and retail is $150ish AFAIK). May gift it to a buddy who I have traveled quite a bit with over the years, but curiosity will likely get the better of me and I'll end up just sharing a pour with him next time he's in town. Anyway here is a story from the NYT if you are so inclined https://www.nytimes.com/2011/07/24/magazine/drinking-ernest-shackletons-whisky.html

Ah, I remember that story.  The paper looks like palm leaves.  Cool.  We’ll see how disciplined you are in your decision on whether or not to open it!  :D

Heehee!  I’m thinking you’re going to fight it and make it at least a month.  All bets are off if your buddy shows up before!  :D

Well since he just left last Tuesday and the next visit is TBD (lives in New Zealand these days) it will take some willpower, I think my desire to look at all stuff inside the packaging will be the hardest thing to over come, there's a small book with pictures of the expedition and such in there and I'm ultimately a history geek as much as a whiskey geek.

Bad Joe, the intrigue is palatable while the whiskey is still TBD.

I can't argue that Kevin.

FWIW, my wife and I were in the Boston area visiting my brother in law and his wife back in 2014 as part of a family get together. One day, the gals went shopping, and me and my bil went shooting, then took a drive. Of course, we stopped at a few liquor stores. At one store, I saw the Shackleton on the shelf. Sadly, I don't quite recall the price, but I believe it may have been something like $139.99. Knowing the story of the Shackleton expedition, and the events that led to the release of the "replica", I have to admit I was very intrigued.  Even though I'm not a Scotch guy, I almost bought one. I opted instead for a couple of ETL's at $29.99, and a Blanton's for $47.99. What can I say?

It tends to run around $160 in these parts so finding it for under $90 in Brooklyn of all places was enough to result in a purchase based on intrigue alone.

I tried to buy these two when up in CT a few weeks back, but they were "in our warehouse"-- but the LS was kind enough to ship them.

Funny that reviews of three sister casks to this Ledaig just showed up on The Whiskey Jug. I was able to try it pre-purchase and it's a smoky, confectionary killer…
