Astor reports a release of Kilchoman 10yo whisky. Presumably their first one or at least the stores first one as they started distilling in 2005.

Priced at a very consumer friendly $179.96

I like Kilchoman ok but, umm, no thanks.^_^

Well for what it's worth they also priced their current 11 YR SAOS SB at $150, then again NAS Kilchoman's have been priced at insanity levels already. Still I wouldn't be surprised if a similar selection was a good $50 cheaper in other markets.

Given what the Springbank 10 and 11 Local Barley expressions sold for, that's not unexpected. Unfortunately all of my more recent Kilchoman purchases fail to come close to their early unbridled and youthful releases-- so I'd rather spend my dough on the crusty dusty stuff when it materializes.

Took a chance in Las Vegas with a shop which was a 20 plus minute taxi ride from the hotel. The photos posted on Yelp were super dusty which gave me hope. Sure enough, a 2013 Red and obscure-as-hell 25yo Glentauchers @ 55.2% from 2015. She literally pulled out a feather duster.

Wrapped up my Vegas assignment with 15 minutes until the LS closed and took a hot taxi for a last minute score. The gal in charge was an ex-pat New Orleanian, so she kept the lights on to help me out.

Have you seen the newest Longrow red Cab Franc? Seems to be a no show in Atlanta which is annoying. I am always willing to give this a release a try. But only if I can find it at hand. Not much for hunting them down these days.

Yes, the Cab Franc is available, and seems to be moving quickly. Let me know if you'd like me to grab you a bottle.

I have debated trying any of the Octomore series for quite a while, but always chose not to because of the extreme peat reputation, even though I do like Lagavulan 16, Laphroaig 10, etc. I was finally able to find a good deal on a bottle of the 6.1 batch, so I decided to give it a try. I must say that I'm really impressed! For a 5yo scotch, this is really good, and the peat isn't as overpowering as I was afraid of...why did I wait so long to pick one of these up or try it somewhere?

Stopped off on my way back from the airport for this 2015 release… seems to be a very polarizing dram.

The local distributor just moved warehouses and all sorts of dusty oddities have surfaced. Just found this 2004 bottling of long-dead Littlemill 12 sitting on the shelf for a song.

Spent a couple weeks in Ireland and wanted to pick up something I couldn't get back home.  2 weeks and countless stores later, found the perfect fit: a Teeling Single Cask (Distillery Exclusive) that was matured in port for 9 yrs and a few months.  Got to try it as part of our tour/tasting, and thought it checked all the boxes (delicious, unique, NCF, within budget, and the bonus box of high proof!)  And got to fill my own bottle at the distillery!  Now just waiting for a cold to pass so I can crack it open and enjoy it!  (note that while the faux barrel head shows a fill date 11 yrs prior, I confirmed that it was tanked in stainless in Nov 2016; apparently they had several casks that they felt hit their sweet spot around that time and tanked them individually for this purpose).

Also picked up an interesting blended Irish whiskey from Brown Foreman - Slane (which is sold in select markets in the states, but not in Georgia).  Only $35 for a liter, and got to try it at a pub during my trip and thought it was interesting enough to pick up.  It is a blend of Irish whiskey aged in 3 different types of casks (virgin oak, BF seasoned oak, and Oloroso sherry).

What do you think of these?  I know where I can find the 13 year.

The 13 year is one of my go-to's, had a few of them and I prefer it to the 17 actually. It's a good mix of sweet and spirit, not an obvious dram at all I don't think. I'd recommend it if the price is right!

I'm with @beasled the 13 is very solid, to me it is more complex than many regular release OB Scotches, decent age and proof help. It's a bit earthy and has a touch of sulfur to it which are things I find appealing.

Complex is right. I've probably had 30+ official bottlings of single malt, and my first pour of the 13 was bewildering. But after getting oriented with it over a few days and weeks, it quickly became a favorite. Recommended!
