Much better than expected. The Glenmorangie character is still there, but presented in a hairer and high proof style-- very nice…

Do you often find yourself in the situation where you need to stab you whiskey?

Only when opening a bottle for the first time.

Holy hell. Docile nose, relatively low proof— but the first sip literally took my breath away. Immense, intimidating and concentrated character— the opposite of delicious, but in a fantastic way.

Throw in some moral turpitude and lascivious gestures, and that’s an orgy in a glass!  :D

It was a “what the hell” moment at the store, but recently I’ve been seeking beefy low-ABV malts and blends to enjoy during daylight.

So what you think? Saw at a store the other day for $279...Dalmore brings back old memories from a night in Guadalajara!!!  Haven't had it since...

After rediscovering, cork break, filterering and rebottling, I’ve decided this is a damn good drink.

Connemara Peated Irish Whiskey.

Indy Springbank 17 from Blackadder. I'm no expert but this may well have seen the inside of a sherry cask.

The cask blending was very well done-- TUN 1509 Batch 4 should take notice. Unfortunately there's a flat spot during the delivery (somewhat like a Bosch 009 mechanical advance distributor on an ACVW engine) due to the dilution that brings down the side compared to the robust, wonderful nose. Easily remedied by a few drops of my beloved PALS Chieftain’s 18yo @ 57.%.

Wow that is DARK, can you taste any whisky under all that sherry? I wonder if they forgot to empty the barrel first.

This showed up at the neighborhood grocery along with a Glen Scotia 15– must have come in on the Stoli truck with the Bayou Rum. Hard to beat for $25.99...

Surprisingly, yes. The Springbank profile holds up against the heavy sherry!

You slumming it, Marekv8? :D

I don't think I would have bought it, if only for the tagline "smoothed to perfection" haha.

I haven't picked one of these up yet, it's a tough sell here since the 12 year is only a few bucks more, one of my regular places just got a few cases of the 18 in and it's priced at $55, I had a hard time resisting the urge to buy a bunch at that price. I know they aren't everyone's thing but I like Loch Lomond quite a bit, even more so their peated malts (Croftengea/Inchmurrin/Inchmoan/Craiglodge etc...)

50/50 blend of two 12-year-old Highland Park expressions-- comes out to around 107 proof.

Chances are the one on the left was going into the cask right when the other one was going into the bottle.

An after dinner pour of dusty Alberta Distillers Alberta Springs Canadian.  Some nice Goetze’s Bulls-eyes caramel and cream with a touch of smokiness on the finish, tonight.  Goetze’s in a whiskey is my sweet spot.

Still working on my Dalmore run. The 44% ABV here really makes a difference, along with a generally grittier blend.
