Thanks for the info.  My second go to is Cocchi.  Do you know if that has color added?

Cocchi is something we’ve been diving into recently at home and we are digging it too.

I clearly need to be paying more attention. A few there are new to me. I need to get back in know of what’s out there now.

I wouldn't sweat it too hard. Most of those are sourced brands and very expensive. Not saying they aren't good but you've been doing this long enough to likely not be interested in that kind of thing.

The Presidential's Choice is Brown Forman and very limited and each run is a one off of something they find interesting at the time.

Some odds and ends from my 2 days in Kentucky this past week.

Damn, nicely done. I’d really like to stumble on the President’s Choice. Never heard of the Lux Row offering and have no idea what’s the differences in the Preservation stuff. At least one I believe is Canadian sourced.

Something old, something new, something 101 proof.

New to me, at least. Batch 21 has had some positive reviews on here so it seems like a good first try of Barrell. IMG_20200208_124510.jpg

Yeah Steve, I figured that was the case. Whether I’m interested in the contents or not, I used to at least KNOW them all. Maybe too pours recently.[emoji3166]

Thanks! I’ve been really fortunate on my last 3 visits to KY. The OF was the result of a nice conversation I had with a local LS owner. I never expected him to disappear in the back of the store and come out with that. I’m still euphoric and incredibly grateful. Though I can’t be a regular, I’ll certainly make it a point to give him more of my business in the future.

The Rare Perfection had 14 and 15 year offerings, both Canadian whiskey. As far as I know, the age is the only difference between the bottles. They’re both cask strength, so there was a slight difference in proof also. The price differential was ~$45.

The Lux Row 12 and VOSN 12 were curiosities as much as anything else. I’m looking forward to trying them out.

I think it used to be easier to keep track because there was a @#$% of lot less things to keep track of.

And there's been more drinking since those days, which ain't a bad thing ;)

Cocchi does indeed contain caramel color, as does most red/sweet vermouth and (all?) amaro.  Cocchi is indeed a great vermouth though!  Vya + Rittenhouse or WT101 rye makes my favorite Manhattan.

I’m not going to quote everyone, but I too dislike 1910, as well as 1920. It just tastes like flat Tab to me.

Tab.....wow, now there's a horrible saccharin-filled memory from childhood. That was the only soft drink that my mother would let my sister and I drink in the '70's, and I really loathed it. Almost as bad as bell bottoms.

Your description made me want to crack open my bottle of 1920 to see if I can imagine the taste of Tab. I definitely see what you're saying. You just ruined OF 1920 for me! Now all I get is that saccharin/artificial sweetener note, sans the fizz. ?☠️

Cheers, ?

Nancy

We has these in our house growing up.  I can still feel the dry, etched glass after hundreds of trips through the dishwasher ?

@n811, as much as I despised TAB, I have to say those glasses are cool, with that hourglass shape. You can almost imagine them holding some of that saccharin-y, fizzy, cancer-causing goodness! ?

I remember the Tab commercials and those hourglass glasses. Haha. Even remember seeing the product on grocery store shelves.  Thankfully my parents never bought any of that stuff so I can say I never tasted Tab. Now I can enjoy my 1920 in ignorant bliss!

Found the LBP hiding solo behind some completely unrelated bottles (but sitting up on a short block back in mid-shelf) - no clue why it was hid there unless someone was planning to return later - tuff nutts to them.

First I've seen of the RT BIB (it's batch #1, so just out apparently).  Kinda pricey at $50, but gave in after a quick sample at the distillery - same price on the LS shelf or from the distillery shop.  Figure supporting the first legal distillery in AR since Prohib is worth a few extra $$ to give 'em (another) shot...  82% corn, hopefully a full pour will be as good as the sample.

Rock Town really hurt their reputation with some of their early releases. Some of their early products were okay, but many were just horrible...enough so that I’d probably not buy anything from them again without sampling first.

Not sure where to put these bunker busting posts? Bunker diving for me as I’m diving into the downstairs coat closet to pull these out.

People seem torn on the Rebel Yell 10yr but I’m a big fan. I think most days I’d take it over W12. The 13yr WP pick is supposed to be quite good. I know the other barrel pick they got in at the same time was supposed to be MGP, not sure on this one. The ECBP is something I’m done with but I need to push through and finish a few in the bunker.

Could you share the reason ECBP is no longer interesting?

They have always been rare around here.  I never saw the current label version in the wild until about a week ago.

Just my preference. I find all EC at this point to have too much wood influence and not very balanced for my liking. I’ve gone through a lot of ECBP and EC SB PS before coming to this conclusion. At this point for a barrel proofer or high proof bottle in this price range I’d rather get a KCSB, 1920 OF, Booker’s or JDBP. That’s just me though. If you see one at a reasonable price and have been seeking it I’d try it.

I remember the store I found this ECBP had a nearly 15 year pick of KCSB. I picked up one of each. Instead I wish I instead got 2-3 bottles of the KC. Then again those can vary as well.

I bought these two along with VBT 716, which I will have posted by tomorrow evening.

It's been a bit since I've had 4R SmB. For $25 it's something i enjoy and should honestly always have an open bottle.

Just looking around at a few places today and my local Kroger Wine & Spirits had a few cases of this so I grabbed one.
