No, haven’t seen it for awhile.

Also interesting to note that Luxco changed the brand name to “Rebel bourbon” now instead of “Rebel Yell”

I love it too. Bunkered about 30 bottles of it.  I had a feeling the name was going to change.

Weller SR this evening. Nothing normally unusual about that, except that my palate may have been a little out of whack the last two or three days. Weller SR had been tasting a little off, and a ps Larceny pick was tasting pretty good. Tonight it was the exact opposite. The Larceny tasted meh, and my Weller SR was great. Go figure.   Just another example of how interesting our hobby can be at times.

Fighting Cock 103 was tonight's pour. Actually the only bottle in the house as I killed my last EWSB I had on hand. I don't know how HH does it...even their budget bottles (EWB, FC) are darn tasty for the $. 

 

I see Woodmans and Total Wine have a regular Henry McKenna (not the BiB) at a bottom shelf price. Color looks youngish. Worth the $11 or so for a 750? Total has the EW 1783 which I haven't tried yet...should I go for it?

I remember at least one member here posting about the regular Henry McKenna, and that they liked it. Decent and fairly inexpensive. I’ve seen it at a couple of places for around $20.00. Might be worth a shot at that price Todd. If it was the price of the 10 yr BIB, I’d say pass.

My local had some as recently as a month or two ago I believe. Not sure if it's still there.

I bunkered quite a few of these a few years back when it first came out.

I think McKenna is a good buy at $11.  I see it as high as $25 some places and there are way too many better alternatives at that price.

Did you get your Larceny from Binny's? If so, which one is it? I have two picks they had available, and they are very different profiles.

I got both of mine from different Binny’s. The one I have open, that is almost gone, is Barrel Serial #6696791. The one in my bunker is #6696790. If this second one is even half as good as the first bottle, I’ll be a happy camper. I could classify #791 as what I call a “get stupid” bottle. It’s good, drinks lower than is proof, and goes down way too easy.

The nose is great, palate just what I've come to expect from the FP, but the finish on this one is borderline hot mess. Way hotter than other bottles I've had of this. Gonna give it a little open time.

I'm drinking some 791 right now. It's definitely Larceny, albeit a better Larceny than an average OTC one. The first bottle of OTC Larceny I bought was magical; the rest have been less impressive in varying degrees. These store picks are definitely a step in the right direction. That 790 is pretty much disappeared before the other two; it might be even better! I'd have picked up some if it were available near me ( I use the McHenry store, looking forward to the Gurnee store opening soon).

 

The other I have is 66768572. It drinks very differently; in a blind test I doubt I would have even considered it being Larceny. It's much more mellow and low key; the bourbon that comes to mind is Buffalo Trace. Not the flavor itself, but that less amped up, more laid back character.

 

I went back & grabbed two more bottles each; I knew if I didn't I'd be kicking myself about it for years.

I believe lower proof bourbon is recommended during exercise, so I brought along a flask of W12.  I learned that a taste of snow is a great break between a pull on a cigar and a sip of bourbon.

Crazy week at work...already!  Enjoying some Knob Creek 9 year.  But, change of pace.  No Hallmark Christmas movies.  No, its Tuesday night.  My wife is watching "This is Us!"

Relaxing with Sadik Hakim playing Mood Indigo and other Duke Ellington classics.    I pulled something unusual out of the bunker - Hooker's House Bourbon.    This is one of the earliest (at least to my knowledge)  finished bourbons,   in this case done up in Sonoma County Pinot Noir barrels.    I liked this stuff five or six years ago, and bunkered a bottle.   I'm glad I did - this one' s a rare finished bourbon that is subtle,  that accents the whiskey  rather than dominates it.   I have no idea who the distiller is,   but the finish allows me at least the chance to guess,  not disguising the peanut brittle caste of what must be  Beam or HH distillate.  

 

I don't know if these guys are still around,  but Hooker's  House is a drinker's delight,  a pour that goes down both lush and easy.   100 proof - "general's strenght", says the bottle - it does what I poured it to do,  let me dig a keening clarinet while basking in the warmth of a rich Kentucky/Sonoma hug.
