Revisiting this thread and just saw this.  I may have to try this. One unit of 0.5*80 proof + one unit of 0.5*100 proof= I'd guess two units of 90 proof. Stuck in the fridge/freezer, this just might get me through the Summer.  IF I don't give up beer, of course.

Costco sells a really good under-the-counter-size freezer for $99 plus tax.  Plugged ours in next to the dryer in the basement.  Sometimes it takes me HOURS to do the laundry.

Boston Rounds work perfectly for this. 

Prefer freezer whiskey at 100pf; so far anything diluted is meh when froze.   

Still want to try FRYL for this, saving until the dog days of summer.

  

From the freezer, lately:

OO Bonded Rye was good froze.  As are the HH cats&dogs. 

WT101 is smoother and richer out of the freezer. chill-gobble.  

 

Everything I've tried drinks well as a froze-cold whiskey. 

Next up: Bonded Lairds, Calvados, and Yak.  From the freezer.

I know a helluva lot about bourbon, but then again I don’t.   Just being honest folks. New fridge, more room. I’ve been contemplating Weller SR as a freezer pour for a while. The only drawbacks is that it has a metal screw cap. Any thoughts about the differences or consequences between cork and metal screw caps when it comes to freezer storage? Fridge yes, freezer???  FWIW, we have a little more freezer room in our new fridge, but not quite enough to store a bottle upright.

I did try and liked Early Times BIB frozen a lot.

I poured a glass, covered with cling wrap, and gave it 24 hours.

The “new”, like nationwide release, Old Tub cork fits perfect on a Weller 12/SR 750 metal screw top. I slightly overtightend or bent the metal cap on a W12 and would no longer do it’s job. I happened to just finished an OT bottle (delicious oily peanuty juice btw) and tried the cork out. It was meant to be…..

My guess is screw top, metal or plastic, would be better than cork.  I've put lots of screw tops, mostly plastic, in -70 freezer with no problems.  If there's anything to idea of cold desiccating the cork causing shrinkage, that would be deterrent.  George Costanzo knows about that.  If you put screw top Yamazaki 18 in freezer and things go bad, just remember, I don't know nuthin' 'bout it.

Joe, I'd find an empty bottle with a plastic screw cap, grab a funnel and fill it up.  You might need a shorter bottle or something 375ml to fit in there.  I'd feel funny ever laying a full whiskey bottle on its' side.  Even if it never leaked, I would know it's wrong.

In my freezer, right beside my bottle of Stoli you will find either 4R Yellow Label or Benchmark. Both work well in the freezer. I also make a homemade Fireball using Benchmark and it is also especially good out of the freezer.

My first freezer bottle was 4RYL.  Then I tried EW black label and liked it better but now I'm hooked on Ancient Age 80 proof.  I like the smoothness of the low proof and the cold really pops the butterscotch flavors that get muted as it warms up.  The only bad thing is that AA is not always on the shelf where I live.

Hate to admit it— but Bumbu (technically not a rum, but a distilled spirit specialty) Is pretty tasty at freezing temps.

I've not had pussers out of freezer but do like it.  does aging in american white oak make it close to bourbon?  I used to drink it when it was 7 year.  I need to pick up one to see what the 3-4 year is like.

I’d suggest grabbing the gunpowder proof if you can. Not sure what the age statement is now but it’s good on its own and makes a mean cocktail.

So, since our weather started warming up here, I chose to once again have a freezer whiskey. I decided to use one of the multitude of OF 86 proof 375’s I have in my cabinet. Since I put said OF in the freezer, there’s been a 10-15 degree drop in our average daily temperatures. 🌡

We’ve experienced a thirty degree temperature swing here in the last two weeks. High temps went from the mid 90’s to the mid 60’s. At least it ain’t like the 60 degree temperature swing in Colorado.
