Pretty shocked about a lot of those. Extremely interesting results. Besides the dark horse that won the whole thing.. i may be personally most surprised by Bookers beating OWA

was your final tasting done before or after your hangover from yesterday🤔

lol before, the final head to head is what kicked off friday night.

Bookers is a heavy hitter as well, a few of the head to heads were really tough.

I best get down to the store and pick up a Sagamore Spirit before it goes on allocation and doubles in price. 😀

In all seriousness, I appreciate the commitment you exhibited.

In all seriousness, you should grab some Sagamore.  I'm currently enjoying a 7 yr. private barrel from a local whiskey society that I belong to and it's phenomenal.  I'm definitely going to explore some of their other expressions.  There's a cask strength rye and a Reserve 8yr. cask strength rye that I've heard great things about.

Back in 2019 I had a Julios Sagamore pick that they extra aged in an Armagnac barrel that was from another pick. Total about 8 years old. It was fantastic. I was not able to grab a backup and it still makes me sad. It easily, very easily, beat out the Whistle Pig release of "The Black Prince". And was less than 1/5 the price lol.

I guess I'm going to have to break down now and try Sagamore.

I you can get a barrel select get that, if you can't grab the cask strength.

I know nothing about the Sagamore, but had a bottle shared from the SIL that was a Double Oak Rye. I was extremely impressed as I thought it was better than any of the DO Bourbons I've had.

The 8 year is indeed mighty good.

My Key Takeaways:

Buy Sagamore Spirit.  Only ever see a 375 of the Cask Strength around me, but that will do

Finally buy that $90 Bookers I always see at the store down the road
Finally buy Old Forester 1920, not sure why I haven't yet
Try out WT 101, which I've always ignored since I had Rare Breed

Though it's plentiful, all virginny sees is the standard base 83 proof

I'm not that all surprised by the Sagamore, the ones I've tried are great.  I have a 6 yr barrel pick that I sampled before buying and it's excellent.  I think combining bourbon blind Sbs with straight ryes is a little tricky, for me anyway, but a worthy champion.

Consider it done.  Love this pour for the price.  Unfortunately someone finally bought up the last Bookers and Sagamore Spirit from my local store so I guess I have to hit Total Wine soon.

Add me to the list. Wow that is a very impressive pour. Big. I can see how that did so well

in your bracket. They are doing something very nice there.

So it looks like a blend of BP MGP Ryes. That explains part of it.  Owned by the founder of under armour?
