JakeySnakes
With all the talk above, I decided on a pour of KC9 tonight.
Thomm
Knob Creek 9 for me also, but on Friday. Last night VOB, and more than I should have had. On a somewhat related note, have you ever had that chintzy little cork stopper break off in the neck of a bottle of KC9? I have saved the rubber-corked stoppers from OGD bonded for just such occasions. Perhaps I just need a nice crystal KC9 decanter.

mbroo5880i
Relaxing after a long day of yard work. I probably pissed off half the men on my cul-de-sac and impressed half the women. I pulled weeds and power washed in the street and curb in front of my house. One of my neighbors mentioned to me that I created extra work for him since the other neighbors noticed. Of course, I was helping him move furniture in his garage when he told me. A couple of nice pours of OF100 just because I deserve them. And yes, gives more of that oily peanut-ness that some don’t care for. In the past, KC at 9 years could be too dry to my palate, and the juiciness and house style were compromised. Regardless, I liked and appreciated it, because it was NEVER bad and I knew it would be a very solid choice at any bar. Whether it’s me, the whiskey, or a convergence of the two, it’s really been working for me these last couple of bottles. So what I hear you saying is that KC9 is where you and I meet in the middle on Beam

TwoFingers
Polishing off some BT this afternoon. The wedding I was at wouldn't serve bourbon neat. It had to have a mixer (probably too many young guys doing shooters) My choice was JBW, so not the end of the world. I convinced the bartender that a splash of Coke would work as a mixer. Turned out ok.

steven s
a friend sent out our small group's most recent blind virtual tastings. "A"- very much enjoyed the Cream of KY 13 year, which I believe is from Barton. "B"- keeping with the 13 year theme was WT 13 year 91 proof. Initially we all agreed the "B" sample was familiar and easy-going, but over time and a bit of chilled water the "A" sample opened up and was the easy unanimous favorite prior to the reveal.

I miss EC12 and the classic fatter, more squat bottles they came in. I have some ECBP bunkered in the old style bottles but I always wished I had gotten a case of EC12 before the NAS'd it on me. Nice store pick!!
smokinjoe
So, I’ve become a full on clear ice cube guy. I enjoy making it, and it makes my bourbon on the rocks experience better. Yay, me. However, I’m now going down the rabbit hole… The clear ice making process leaves a bit of a thin wall shell of ice on the edges where the ice block meets the water in the cooler. You cut and chop these off before sawing the blocks into cubes. Yeah…I’m keeping those cut off pieces…son-of-a-BITCH…. Anywho, I keep them and use them. They’re…uh…pretty…Oh, FFS!…Help me… 1783 on clear ice shards…

I don’t really have the palate to discern the potential differences that may exist amongst Heaven Hill BIBs. But, when it comes to labels, that JTS BIB label is just glorious in its simplistic old timey design. So, it wins!
PaulO
I can discern the differences between the different HH B.I.B. brands, but that only came with years of research. JTS Brown has a flavor similar to Cracker Jack; peanut, popcorn, molasses. Also drinks well below its' proof.

What size cooler do you use and how much do you fill it? Thanks!

I saw the video in another thread and it looks too easy not to try. What size cooler do you use and how much do you fill it? Thanks! Ha! One thing about this whiskey hobby is that there is no shortage of rabbit holes to dive down! Heck, there’s even a “Rabbit Hole” distillery! My cooler is just like the guys in the video, but is an igloo brand and called a “cool 8”. Designed to contain 8 cans of beer/coke. Inside dimensions are 9.75” side to side X 6.5” front to back X 7.5” deep. Fill to 1” from the top. 24 hours in the freezer is just right to get a slab of ice ~2” thick at the top (the rest of the contents remain as unfrozen water.). The knife type is important. A bread knife is ideal. Serrated edges for scoring, long blade to score fully across, and flat blade profile for even depth cuts. I tried a slightly curved knife on first try, but it’s curve caused uneven pressure on the slab when tapping it with hammer this causing uneven/clean cuts when it breaks through. Ice still looked good and clear, but cubes look better…(BTW, I didn’t want to mess up our good bread knife, so bought one at Bed Bath & Beyond for $6. Works like a charm.)
