Scored another ECBP C922 and a Henry McKenna BiB, Good day!! We have a tasting for another SB store pick next week with the EC rep. 3 barrel samples coming in. All 3 are 8 years plus. So by the time we receive the bottles should be 9 year!! we did this this past fall ( I don't work there, just a good customer!!), and they sold it for $39 each !! Damn good juice. for the price.

Site seems dead. Everyone OK?  Anyway, had another great day today. Unexpectedly 3 bottles of ECBP C922 showed up at my LS. Manager put all 3 aside for me.  Stopped in and he told me, told him I will take 2 and save the other for himself or another fan. Also got another OF 1920. I do not believe we will see any more C922 . He agreed.

Agree, seems quiet at the moment...... Good day for you, good day for me as well. Got three FR 2022 LE today, and just had another lucky shot, ordered a Booker's at a small German store, no further info on batch / proof so I had no clue what it was. Came in just now, it is Granny's batch, that I did not have yet. Very pleased with that!

Kinds in the same boat.  I am looking to empty some bottles because I have no room for new ones in the kitchen bourbon cabinet.  Or the other kitchen cabinet.  Or the bourbon cabinet in my office.  Or the cabinets in the garage.  Or the boxes next to the cabinets in the garage.

Bourbon Zen?

Sipping from the 90ish open bourbon bottles in the library after starting with one of my daily pours, I am content with mostly replenishing the daily drinkers at this point. I'll occasionally grab something to add to the library, as with this Peerless DO (new to me, but am familiar with it and curious), and the New Riff (loved the others I've tried). Had to grab another RB rye so I can finish the one I have, (sooo good), and could not resist ANOTHER new RR SiB store pick. (imo- about as good as it gets for me of things that are available regularly). Got plenty of WSR, but had to grab one on principle for a friend who can't get it where he lives, NC. Had gone up to $24 since last time.

 

 

Zen is walking into the grocery and skipping the liquor aisle because you are there for bread.  Zen is going into a liquor store and skipping straight the checkout to pick up lottery tickets.  Zen is knowing what you like and rarely buying anything else.   I haven't reached zen yet.

I've been trying to cull bottles, I really have but then Mom calls and the conversation starts like this, "Hi Honey, I'm at the package store. Do you need anything?  Here's what's on sale!"  and she starts sending me texts with pictures of every whiskey that they have on sale.  

I have to learn self-control.

The only time I buy anymore is when I’m on travel for work, which isn’t often. I’m enjoying working my cabinet down.

 

My wife wants me to get a different cabinet that looks more feminine (read white instead of mahogany). What she doesn’t know is the on I’m eyeing is even bigger than my previous one and will allow me to store probably 1.5x times what I have now .

Never thought I'd write this: Thank God the Mother in Law lives with us.  Wifey got pretty bent out of shape over bourbon expenditures. MiL very bluntly told my Wifey that I could have far worse habits than bourbon (and named several tantalizing possibilities) and told her to Back Off.  That is the only person on this earth who could tell the Wifey such a thing in such a manner and keep all of her limbs.

 

We keep Mother in Law well supplied with vino tinto & oporto.

I'm a cheap bastard, (the special kind of cheap where I "get 3 estimates if something costs more than $20.00 cheap") and  hem & haw and agonize over most  purchases.   When she catches me doing that, she says me, "Buy it!!", even for a **$750.00 bottle.  She blinked, briefly, but told me to go for it.    So...I'm left to my own devices, but she's smart.   She knows how cheap I am.

Well...yes and no.   She's quite clever and she likes bourbon, (and loves rye), but doesn't drink too often.  When she does, it's usually an Old Fashioned, and her limit is one or, on the rare occasion, two.   That makes her a cheap date!

 

After 40 years together, and married for 36 of them, I think I'll keep her.

 

Unlike some, I'm proud of being a cheap bastard and wear that moniker proudly.  I have mad respect for  @mbroo5880i posts.

Friend, we have so much more in common than our love of bourbon and cheap bastard ways.  I met my wife 40 years ago and we will be celebrating our 36th anniversary later this year as well.  We know what bourbon we like, the value of a dollar, and a good woman when we see one!  Our version of Zen.  Cheers!
