Toasted bourbon blind tasting last night. This was the group consensus left to right ("best" on left). I had the Penelope as my #1 and BH Toast last. The Oak & Eden was by far the darkest of the bunch.

It's a bit hard to make out in the pic:

Micther's>ECT>Penelope>O&E>Bridle&Bit>Daviess>BHT>Bridge&Main.

How many pours in before it became a "blind tasting?"  🤪  I am sorry, I know you started without knowing what you were drinking.  How many pours before you forgot where you were at?  🤪

Keeping with the Russell theme tonight. I'm following an earlier WTRB pour, with this...

Wiped out a bottle of FRSiB.  It was just pissing me off and needed to go.  Followed up with a small pour of Still Austin.  It is now on the judiciously conserve list.  Followed up a small pour of Legent. I need to grab a few more bottles while it is $10.

In the mood for a tickle from Dickel. I am a fan of Dickel in general, and grabbed several of these when Lake Street Liquor stocked them in 2014. Still have 4 our 5 left.

Just lit the Primo for filet mignon, mixed veggies, TX toast and over medium eggs...

Just lit the cook with a freezer pour of George Remus...

OF 1870 tonight. Common for most of you guys, basically impossible to find in Europe. Was lucky enough to have a fellow SB member bring me one when visiting France!

Well, I tell you what. You send me some La Trappe Quad, and I will source OF for you.

Long day of gardening.  But, got a lot accomplished.  Started with two solid pours of Sazerac Rye.  Followed by Heaven's Door.  Just came in off the deck since it is a rather cool Indiana evening.  I suspect I will have another pour.  The Heaven's Door was mighty fine so I suspect it will be invited in for a second pour.

It's Saturday night baby, put on your clubbin' shoes. 😉 😀

I picked this up a my local wine Shop today (Tiffany's in Kalamazoo).  KO had become one of my favorites and I wanted to try this one.  On the nose, I got baking spices with a dominant cinnamon note.  My wife was trying this as well and she agreed.  On the palate, my first reaction was glazed cinnamon roll.  It is sweet up front followed by the cinnamon and a  bread note (hence the cinnamon roll characterization).  My wife commented that it was not as smooth as it could be as the alcohol note gives it a harsh edge and I agree with her assessment.  Both of us really liked this one.  It was a $150 bottle but since I haven't bought a new bourbon is some time and I closed a large collaboration deal last week, I thought I would treat myself.

I couldn't decide what I felt like tonight.  Started with a small glass of EW BIB; moved on to Rebel 100; then to Remus VI, then to Larceny BP B521.  I'm sticking with that.

This is how I get rid of that hot mess Stagg Jr 2nd release.  A small splash, into a pour of ER10.

I like the ER10 okay, and I don't care for this Stagg Jr release at all.

I read about this from a fellow SB member, (whose name escapes me), but it really works.

Not gonna post it in the Empty Bottle thread but I ended up killing the B521.

I do something similar; 60% Eagle Rare (Ok, nothing spectacular) with 40% Benchmark Full Proof (harsh, hot mess) and I enjoy the blend.

Yeah....good call...my inner "cheap bastard" can't bring myself to waste the JR.  I bought it ~10 years ago. It was a hot mess then, and has not improved at all.

The ER10 is a pick, that I wanted to love but, I don't.

The blend, however,  is so good that if I come across a reasonably priced bottle, (which can be a stretch), I'll buy it, just to use up the Jr.

This works with most batches of Stagg Junior and is the way I enjoy probably half of my SJr volume.  Except batch #12!  That one is absolutely sublime on its own.

Good to know.

I liked the 3rd batch,  a lot, but

quit buying  when  when the prices started getting stupid.

Fair enough, but I've never paid more than $55 for any of mine. Most were $45 and I still have about a half dozen of those yet.  Having said that, I haven't purchased one either since batch 13.  They are much too tatered now, for the quality of the liquid.  Batch 12 was an outlier IMO.

Luckily my local hooks me up with a GTS every year so I don't care if I miss out on Junior anymore.  Besides I still prefer CEHT BP over STJ.

Tonight was a good night. The pre-fire EWSB was great. Blend of Mashbills was a bit hot but full of flavor  Pretty much everything was hitting the spot tonight. I was  done until Billy made an appearance!

Since I now have another bottle of Weller SR in the bunker, it's Weller SR in the glass tonight. 😁

“Same as it ever was!”  For @Vosgar. 🙏

Weather has been so nice this week that I spent most of my drinking time with 5% ABV beers while doing yard work or sipping on neat pours of stuff I don't own (like Redemption) while eating in restaurants.  SO, just before the Detroit-Nats game started a little earlier today, I had a small sip of my OGD BIB I keep in the trashcan next to my TV chair.  MAN did I get a hit of rye spice and barrel caramel.

Rancho Deluxe 1910...

Been moving aside an OF King's Ranch that the SIL left after Christmas. As I remember it, it was a bit hot and kind of all over the place. I had no interest in revisiting whatsoever...

This time I gave it no chance and just dropped about 1/3 1910 in the pour. A bit sweet but more consistent than I remember. Not bad...

Yeah, I paid $50.00 for a few bottles of different batches and, if memory serves, I really liked the #3. I must have, because I don't have any left 😅
