Funny you should mention this.  Just spent $1800 to have ALL the sound proofing pulled out of my 2015 Jeep Latitude 4WD to remove the dead squirrel.  Put the "hidden" bottles in the recycle shopping bag stash. before I turned the Jeep in.  ASIDE -- Wife says, "OMG you got a lot of recycle grocery bags;  this is REALLY HEAVY!!"  Did not tell her why.  One OG BIB and one Wild Trail special release in there.  (Another ASIDE - As I type this, a cello is playing loud enough in my ear to overcome my tinnitiis so I can hear MORE Pachelbel Canto.  NOW, is London Philharmonic.  Is good thing I not fixated on Wagner tpnight or you all have BLOOD on your faces.}

Wagner huh?  Ah yes. 😎

Washington Opera did THE RING CYCLE several times, and my wife and I, as Opera Season Ticket Holders, attended. once (THANK  GOD ONLY ONCE).  I can recall several bits -- The Valkyres were not as shrill  in real life as they were in the Bugs Bunny Cartoons.   The Tenor who played Sygmund in the version we saw had an incredible voice but at the beginning of Act 2 when he was supposedly dying and lying on his back, he had a pot belly that stood out so high that I thought it was a pregnant Brunhilde lying there.  ALSO, how come Wagner wanted his singers to sing each if his verses three or four times.  ONCE IS ENOUGH!!!  His 0peras would be half as long with ONE RUN-THROUGH!

On a positive note,  I got to see Pavarotti sing "Nessum Dorma",  Jose Carreras sing in multiple roles, and, of course, Placido Domingo .   As a tenor who in my younger years could BARELY-ON-GOOD-DAYS hit C above high B withOUT singing falsetto, I really admired these guys.

Helped wife clean out a kitchen cabinet and dispose of REALLY old food.  THEN! Decanted a one liter OGD BIB and sipped the dregs that would not fit in the 800 ml decanter.  THEN!  Inventoried an upper shelf in the utility room so that cleaning it out next weekend goes smoothly.  It just happens to be where I stashed a dozen or so bourbons.  Pulled down a slightly dusty JB Distiller's Cut.  I hadn't had this in awhile and had forgotten how spicy and NON-peanutty this is (label says 100 proof, aged 5-6 years).  Beam really ought to stop screwing around with its 6-8 YO 100 proof (+or- a few per cent) distillate and keep pumping it out there.  If they want to build a following for an expression, they ought to KEEP the release out there for more than three or four months.  Just this sot's opinion, of course.  I only spend a couple thousand a year on bourbon, so ignore me, you marketing dolts.

AND, while I was sipping on this JBDC and watching Los Nationales play Las Serpientes in Arizona (score tied 1-1), for some reason I had a desire to listen to Winton Marsalis's version of Johann Pachelbel's Canon in D Major.  Wife and I were in New Orleans years ago and wandered into his playing this.  SO!  Tonight I went searching and found SEVERAL renditions that merit listening on You Tube - Winton's of course but also George Winston's piano (2009), and a European release titled "Baroque Dance" with people in costume dancing to  it, AND a Chinese PenYang (spelling -0.1 EDIT NANYANG) rendition that combined traditional and then jazz.  I missed two innings of nonaction - score is STILL 1-1.  JB DC is down only about an inch.  But, it is early yet.

I have loved all renditions of Canon in D that I have ever heard. When I analyze it in depth, it seems so simplistic yet I feel it may be the most beautiful piece of music ever written. Now that you have thrown out a Winton Marsalis rendition, I'll be chasing that, too. What a talented man from a super talented family!

P.S. I wish I had a JBDC... 😢

The John J. Bowman?  It's readily available around the Baltimore metro area. It's one of our favorites. There's was a time, when it was difficult to find, back when there was a "bottle" shortage.  Since then we always have make sure to have at least one on hand.

My man!  I wish I would have bunkered a couple of cases but it was too late once it disappeared.   On a side note, you must be one old MF to have those CDs in the background.  😀  JK, I went from vinyl to 8-track to cassette to cd to mp3.

That is one helluva neck pour friend.  Besides as a cheap bastard charter member you can't be buying Woodinville Single Barrel.  @flahute will tell you that is overpriced crap.  Take it back, tell them it has cork taint and swap out for 2 1/2 bottles of WT101.  Of course, you will need to swig the 1/2 bottle before you leave the store.   But, a man has to do what a man has to do.

Or do like I do at McDonald's.  I go through the drive through.  After I receive my order, I park and then go in with only the receipt and say "hey, I ordered this without onions."   They give me a second sandwich without onions.  That gives me lunch and dinner for the price of one meal.  The cheap bastard way of life is always on the edge.

okay, I am laughing pretty hard as I type this. Yes, I am an old MF (but not as old as Harry), and I have a ton of CDs. I also still have several hundred LPs, but my last turntable died years ago.

I still have a bunch of old stuff in the bunker. Will be working through it soon, i hope.

😅😅

This is my 2nd one, the other was a pick too and they're both excellent.  Pure cherry cola. I've never had the standard stuff.

I only eat at McDonald's if I'm constipated, (if there's no Taco Bell nearby).

@Harry in WashDC is one pretty old MF.  But, not as old as...

I remember when CDs first came out and wondering ok what do I do with these.  I bought and bunkered a bunch and then they became obsolete.  Good thing bunkered whiskey doesn't become obsolete. 😀

Oh no worries there! Had a mint julep for the Derby and immediately followed with some bourbon so I'm well on my way!

And, I still buy CDs. I like to own my music. I do rip them to a server so I can stream them at will so I'm not totally stuck in the past.

Had a Mint Julep with HH Bib, first ever Mint Julep!  Really good. Might have to use up that fresh mint before it dries out!!!  How long does mint last in the frig? Place in water?

Place in water on the counter.  Should last until the leaves are gone OR start to shrivel up.

A hint for Summer.  Go to a garden store and get a couple mint plants, a clay pot about 8 inches high (the WIDER the better), and a small bag of "potting soil".  Plant the mint, set in a semi-sunny spot on a porch, deck, window sill (pick one) and water once a week (unless it gets about an inch of rain in a week).  WHEN you want some mint, cut (don't just break off) the longest piece making sure you get at least four regular sized leaves.  Make a julep.  CRUSHING the ice to tiny bits is optional.  Breaking the cubes up a bit is not mandatory but preferred.  So is the simple syrup.  Just before the first freeze, fill the pot top with shipping peanuts or bubble wrap and cover it with a white plastic kitchen bag.  In the Spring after the heavy snow/rain/cold is pretty much over, take off the bag and peanuts, lightly water the "dead" sticks every couple days.  In a couple weeks, make a julep.  Add some new potting soil if the plant looks weak a month or so later.  Our pot patch is about a dozen years old although we have repotted it several times as the plant spreads out over time.  Current pot is 15" tall, 12" in diameter at the top, and by mid-Summer the plant will fill the pot.  Pruning longer stalks OR cutting them off about 4 inches up may cause new shoots and sometimes branching.  Those tender shoots are really sweet.

So today, my wife and I hit the flower gardens to do some weeding after heavy rains overnight.  After several hours of work, I was tired and it was humid.  I started whining about wanting to quit.  My wife told me "quit your whining."  We ended up quiting.  See whining works.  😜😀

Tonight, celebrating victory with KCSiB 120.  Keep their expectations low and celebrate every victory no matter how big or small with bourbon.

Of course the answer is to use it up in Juleps before you have to worry about storing it!

That said, here's how my wife stores  her herbs:  Make a fresh cut on the stems; place the bunch in a narrow water glass or a jar (she has used 8-oz water glasses and 16-oz jelly or Mason jars, etc.); fill 3/4 full with water; put a plastic bag (like the one you put veggies in at the store) over the top so it drapes down over the herb and glass as far as possible; store in fridge.

Her herbs last for weeks like this.
