MyBrainOnWhiskey
A small pour to finish the bottle and start the evening. I already had a backup on deck, but now the backup bottle is at the plate... so I need another backup . It's a shelfer and readily available in my area, so no rush. I'm trying to polish off a few more bottles that are nearing their imminent demise before making add'l purchases.

The first three, left to right, are the last bottles of their kind in my collection. I shall certainly miss them all. The RHF was good to the last drop – a delicious whiskey with its DNA firmly in the BT family. But, I must say that I have had some single barrel releases of CEHT that I believe would likely hold their own against the RHF in a blind SBS. I found this bottle a few years ago at a reasonable price and I do not expect to find any more of this at a price I am willing to pay. The JJB is another fine pour with that BT lineage in evidence. I hate that I can’t find this anymore, as it has been a real winner in the $50 range that I have kept consistently in my cabinet for the last several years. Alas, for the time being at least, there is no more for me. The W12 is a bottle that I can get at MSRP occasionally (e.g., once or twice a year) through a LS loyalty program. Right now, though, I am tapped out on this one. Too bad, as I enjoy it a lot. The well-aged wheater category is underrepresented in the bourbon market, I believe. I guess I will rely on my stock of Rebel 10 yr. to get me through my dearth of W12. The Barrell Vantage is a relatively new offering of which I have now drank a couple of bottles. I like it, but don’t love it. At the same price, a good regular batch of Barrell (e.g., 034) is a more enjoyable pour to me. I think that, for a regular, consistent offering from Barrell, I will go with the new Foundation product which is $30 cheaper and is just more appealing to me. Great lineup there. Good work indeed! Harry in WashDC
Finished off an Evan Wms red label 12 yr 101 proof before opening a bunkered Eagle Rare 10 yr 90 proof I bought years ago with a “aged 10 years” neckband. Quite a bit of printing on the back label of the EW Red is in Japanese. Nothing on the ER is so printed. This ER seems creamier on the mouth than the current releases. If I remember what I doing the next couple days, I’ll try to find a new ER and do an side by side. AND! I may post the results if I am conscious.

fishnbowljoe
I had the last pour from a bottle of Blanton’s tonight. Another one I finished a couple of weeks or so ago. I’m not sure where the third empty one came from.
b1gcountry
I've been on a bottle killing mission. 3 bottles of rum, 1 tequila, 4 rye, and a few cocktail things. The Kirk & Sweeney run was pretty boring. Very vanilla. Fake tasting. I won't buy again. Ditto the Flor de Cana. It almost tasted like vodka. The don Julio was my first bottle of tequila to finish. Also not planning to replace that one. I already replaced the Benedictine.
b1gcountry
The wine finished 630 was a mixed bag. Way too much wine influence, but it was dangerously drinkable at 126 proof. Unlike most finished rye, this tasted like excellent rye underneath, spoiled by too much finish influence. The redemption 10 was just sort of hanging around on my shelf because I liked it so much. I finally saved of a sample, and killed the last tiny pour. Very nice MGP aged rye. The 2018 630 was one of my favorite ryes ever. This was my second bottle and I was also milking it, and saving it mostly for guests. Edited August 3 by b1gcountry

I tend to steer clear of finished whiskey because the influence from the finishing barrels tend to overwhelm the base spirit. A couple of exceptions, for my palate anyway, is a Backbone Uncut Barrel proof, that was finished for 6 months in a Jamaican rum barrel. The rum influence was subtle. For reasons that I can't explain, I also like the Angel's Envy Rye....for a dessert pour. I'm not sure why, because I'm not a rum drinker. That said, I do have a bottle of rum that I really like, "The Real McCoy" It's a 12 year that's aged in bourbon barrels. Skinsfan1311
I like it. I almost love it, but not for the price. I won't be replacing it. Dad's Hat Pre-Prohibition style rye scratches a similar itch and is much more reasonably priced.

MyBrainOnWhiskey
All of my bottles that have been emptied in 2024. Eight total, which averages out to one bottle per month. Not bad. I think that still keeps me squarely in the "responsible drinking" category, although I'm not worried if it does not .
Thomm
This was a decent value buy, but there are others that fit the category that I enjoy more (Wild Turkey 101, VOB, Evan Williams BIB, to name a few). The dregs got blended with nearly equal parts EW Black in a freezer bottle.
