This is a spectacular dram after all said and done! The color on this one looks amazing. Never met a Balvenie I didn't like.

I've seen that Durand cork remover work with success by others, but I've never trusted my skills enough to take the plunge on the investment, thinking I'd probably not realize the benefits. Your experience just reinforces my first impression. I'll continue with my tried and true manual method, just like you did. I've done it enough, especially with old WT bottles, that I've actually become quite efficient and it doesn't take me very long anyway.

b1gcountry
I just picked up the 21yr mizunara oak double double. It got positive mentions enough places I figured it was worth the chance...

I have a different Linkwood Signature bottle than yours, that I need to crack open myself. Thanks for the reminder sir
Kepler
Local store had a big sale so I took the opportunity to pick up some bottles I've never had before.
Kepler
Another sale pickup. Wouldn't have purchased this one if it hadn't had a huge discount. After tasting it, glad I did.

Kepler
I've been enjoying this bottle a lot recently. I like its crisp freshness during the summertime. Today I picked up a backup 'pre-woke' bottle.

A joke that most probably dont get I toss about 90% of packaging unless it suits my storage needs by allowing stacking of (short) bottles in a cabinet. Doesn't matter if it's a super nice box on a 30 year old single malt - it's gone as soon as I get home. Edited June 21, 2024 by jvd99
jvd99
This CB “More” caught my eye at Binnys. It’s weird because it’s an exclusive bottling for Julio’s 50th anniversary and the outrun was on 672 bottles. Went online and looks like Binnys got about 30 or so bottles, not sure why, I don’t think Binnys and Julio’s are affiliated in any way. Wonder why Julio’s would let Binnys peel off like 5-10% of an exclusive anniversary bottle.
b1gcountry
I also grabbed a scotch from Binnys...they had the 14yr cognac finish on sale for about $16 cheaper than I can get it around st louis. It's not bad but it's a lot different from the 12yr. Not as fruity. It's still decent for $49 or so.

jvd99
Picked up a Yamakazi 18 at MSRP. Still hefty for 18 year old, but about 1/2 the going rate, and I like it very much, so it was a pretty easy decision, plus it was good FaceTime and purchase from the LS manager right before he’s supposed to get me a Russel’s Reserve 15, perhaps a down payment

Totally worthless pos. It won't even re-close because the clasp doesn't work for repeated closures. If it had been one of their traditional metal tins I would keep it to reuse as a container in the garage like I'll do with the old ones. Or even if it were a traditional presentation box or tube, I'd probably keep the bottle in it so at least it has a use. Instead straight into the trash it goes. Worthless "green" crap.
