Kepler
Took advantage of the first cool night in TX to finally take the peated plunge! I like this one.
meadeweber
A pour of Laphroaig 18 last night. Beautiful stuff! The peat has tamed with age. The lemon note was really prominent last night.
Kepler
I had the day off today. That calls for an early happy hour for me. At the risk of sounding overtly British, this is just a lovely pour. There's just not a better way to describe it.
Kepler
It's kinda jarring to go from the dark chocolate and coffee notes to this one, but my palate is already adjusting just fine. Another very good one, but it can't hang with the Signet.
Kepler
It was a rainy day here, so in a scotch mood. Glendronach 15 yr in my glass now.
Kepler
I just opened a bottle of Glengoyne 15 year. Liking it a lot. Not as much as I like Glenallachie 15, but still very good.
meadeweber
Been on a Scotch kick. I was gifted a bottle of Compass Box Crimson Casks and tried it a few night ago. It was my first taste of Compass Box post John Glaser. It's certainly not a Sherry bomb. Nice notes of Sherry but I was also getting some red wine casks even though I don't think there are any red wine casks in the blend. It was good and I'll need to explore it further. The next night was a pour of Springbank 12 CS. Springbank rarely disappoints.
Skinsfan1311
After dinner pour....The Macallan Enigma...I'm a self-professed Islay whiskey whore, but this is really, really good.
Skinsfan1311
The Macallan was excellent, but I still prefer this...

Kepler
I had the afternoon off from work. Enjoying a pour or two that I normally wouldn't this time of the day & week. Glendronach 15 followed by Glenallachie 15. Both are great.
Kepler
Last pour of the night. Such an interesting and complex experience compared to what I'm used to. The successful interplay of barbecue smoke, honey and vanilla is unexpected but very captivating. And the French wine influence on the finish keeps it all in check, with a balance that just makes you want to take another sip. Damn I know I'm sounding pretentious here with my tasting notes, but what the heck, I'm just being honest . This is a great whiskey. flahute
A little late with this one. Last week I drove up to Whistler to meet a new client and on the way stopped to see another client who just moved into their recently completed house. This client always likes to pour incredible whiskey and this time was no exception.

Kepler
Warmed up my palate with Glenallachie 15, but then switched to Port Charlotte 10yr. I'm still somewhat new to peated whisky, and finding my way gradually. So far, so good. On this cold winter's night, it really hits the spot perfectly. I can see this going somewhere.

My Mom broke out a bottle of the Port Charlotte 10 year that my sister gifted her last week on a cold winter's night. It did, indeed, hit the spot perfectly...

Pros/cons?

Pros/cons? The Pros? This one was finished in a Guinness cask... I love Guinness and Lagavulin, so it's a win/win. I'm not a huge fan of finished whiskey, but it works. I wish that I had a Guinness draught to pair it with. Another pro, is that it was a gift I prefer the 16, but the 11 is really good. The Cons? Can't think of any, except maybe the price.

Haven't had any Lagavulin but the 16 has been on my radar (after I sample my other recent peated bottles already purchased that is Lol )

Everyone told me that it tastes better over there. I think that there's something to that, because I drank gallons of it, and loved every drop. I tried a lot of whiskey there too. While I prefer scotch, I enjoy the occasional pour of Powers John's Lane. The Lag 16 is the "WTRB" of scotch to me...it's always great.
