Started with the PC10 and then cracked open my 18. How do you like the 18?

I think that there's something to that, because I drank gallons of it, and loved every drop. I tried a lot of whiskey there too. While I prefer scotch, I enjoy the occasional pour of Powers John's Lane. The Lag 16 is the "WTRB" of scotch to me...it's always great. Guinness definitely tastes better over there. Well, in general I should say. There are lots of good pubs here in the USA that know how to offer a good Guinness draught. But unfortunately there are way more that screw it up.

It's noticeably better than the 10 (and it should be based on price alone). This one's got the whole "smoked bacon on a campfire" thing going on that I've heard about for many great peated single malts. Much more so than the 10 year. On the nose, this 18 has a light touch of some iodine or "burning band-aids," but it's fairly muted and not so present on the palate/taste. On the palate it's more smoked meat, which I really enjoy. On the finish, what I really appreciate is the French wine & sherry cask influence, because it leaves a sweet taste on the finish as the last final note. Very well done, if you ask me. That wine/sherry note on the finish is the trigger that makes me want to go for another sip. Of course overall, you should take my tasting notes with a grain of salt, because I'm a peat newbie. YMMV. But even at the elevated price of the PC18, I feel the price is worth it, and I would buy it again. If fact, I will look for a backup bottle. Wedelstaedt
We’ve had a bit of snow and a week of cold weather, so I was looking for something to warm me up. After reading @Skinsfan1311 and @Kepler enjoyed their pours on a cold evening, I decided to follow their lead. GlenAllachie 12yr for me. So far it’s working out wonderfully. Thanks for leading by example Cheers

Kepler
I really enjoyed this bottle. It has been discontinued for a couple years now but I hear Balvenie is bringing it back again. Very approachable single malt for a bourbon drinker. I.e., my palate was always in the mood for this one. Honey and pear on the palate ... very tasty. I have a couple more in the bunker, probably from different barrels though.

Kepler
Back to the Port Charlotte 10 tonight. After eschewing peated scotch for years, I think I finally get it.
Kepler
Well after the PC10, I just had to pour some of the PC18 yr. Oh man, this stuff is just marvelous.
