This is the last rung of the Islay ladder that I'm climbing tonight. 🙃

I'm following your lead climbing the ladder, ... agreed the weather is perfect for it.

Started with the PC10 and then cracked open my 18.

How do you like the 18?

I was never a fan until we spent a week in Dublin. Everyone told me that it tastes better over there. I think that there's something to that, because I drank gallons of it, and loved every drop.

I tried a lot of whiskey there too. While I prefer scotch, I enjoy the occasional pour of Powers John's Lane.

The Lag 16 is the "WTRB" of scotch to me...it's always great.

Guinness definitely tastes better over there.  Well, in general I should say.  There are lots of good pubs here in the USA that know how to offer a good Guinness draught.  But unfortunately there are way more that screw it up.

I really like it.  It's noticeably better than the 10 (and it should be based on price alone).  This one's got the whole "smoked bacon on a campfire" thing going on that I've heard about for many great peated single malts.  Much more so than the 10 year.  On the nose, this 18 has a light touch of some iodine or "burning band-aids," but it's fairly muted and not so present on the palate/taste.

On the palate it's more smoked meat, which I really enjoy.

On the finish, what I really appreciate is the French wine & sherry cask influence, because it leaves a sweet taste on the finish as the last final note.  Very well done, if you ask me.  That wine/sherry note on the finish is the trigger that makes me want to go for another sip.

Of course overall, you should take my tasting notes with a grain of salt, because I'm a peat newbie.  YMMV.

But even at the elevated price of the PC18, I feel the price is worth it, and I would buy it again.  If fact, I will look for a backup bottle. 😀🤷‍♂️

We’ve had a bit of snow and a week of cold weather, so I was looking for something to warm me up.
After reading    @Skinsfan1311 and @Kepler enjoyed their pours on a cold evening, I decided to follow their lead. GlenAllachie 12yr for me.
So far it’s working out wonderfully. Thanks for leading by example 👍😃

Cheers

I really enjoyed this bottle.  It has been discontinued for a couple years now but I hear Balvenie is bringing it back again.

Very approachable single malt for a bourbon drinker.  I.e., my palate was always in the mood for this one.  Honey and pear on the palate ... very tasty.  I have a couple more in the bunker, probably from different barrels though.

Back to the Port Charlotte 10 tonight.   After eschewing peated scotch for years, I think I finally get it.

Well after the PC10, I just had to pour some of the PC18 yr.  Oh man, this stuff is just marvelous.
