Edward_call_me_Ed
If you don't count open bottles, very little. Mostly Eagle Rare 101, I think I have five of these unopened. One AAA 10 year old, two AAA ten star that I bought thinking it was the ten year old. Since I really liked it I wasn't disappointed. One OGD BIB that I just haven't gotten around to. And a few bottles of Scotch, Irish, and Japanese whiskies that I haven't opened because I drink bourbon so much more often. Basically, everything I buy gets opened either the evening I buy it or within a few days of getting it. Unless it is something that I won't be able to replace, then I buy a few bottles.Ed
Edward_call_me_Ed
Probably a 1978 Bourbon deLuxe quart I currently have, of which about 40% remains, is the longest-open bottle I've ever had -- about 18 months now. I don't notice any change even now, I just don't care for it all that much (I've been trying to remember to mix it with cola, et al, lately to get it gone). So, Oscar, I've never known one to go 'bad' -- though I've known quite a few (usually higher-proof) that seem to improve after you take an inch or two off the top. That is what I have found, too. Either it gets a little better or I don't notice a change. If I could find some cheap glass bottles, say 50 to 100 ml, I would do some tests. Fill the bottle with the first pour and then my glass. Taste, maybe write some notes. Then set the bottle aside for six months or so after it reaches the one good pour level, then do a side by side. Do another bottle the same way but for a longer time.I do have a similar experiment underway with Teacher's Scotch. I have two bottles that I bought at the same time. One is unopened the other has one good pour in it, maybe two. It has been open for exactly two years. I will have to do the head to head soon. BobA
I have a few unopened bottles of regular stuff, such as OGD 114, but I don't consider those "bunkered," just the results of finding a good price. "Bunkered" is for bottles either gone or so far away/rare they may as well be, to be consumed with some care. There are open bottles in that category too, but they're "out on the shelf," so actually, "bunkered" is stuff I've tried, liked, and sought out more of, but a single bottle gets opened. In the bunker:WT RR 101 - 3 bottlesER 10/101 - 1 bottleStagg (2005, I think) - 1 bottleNot really much.Bob
doubleblank
Like you Bob, I don't bunker anything that I can stop at my local retailer and pick up on the way home. Nor do I bunker anything I don't like or won't drink a lot of. Several years ago I stumbled into over a case of ORVW Old Time Rye. I'm not a big drinker of rye, so those bottles ended up in the bunkers of other members here. I kept a single bottle and still have 1/2 of it left. The likes of Makers Mark, Beam, BT, WT 101, ER SB, etc etc.......I let my local retailer be my bunker for those bottlings.Randy

ratcheer
Tim, I see this WTKS you have opened since 1994, when is the last time you tried it? Is it still good?I have heard that you should not let them go for more than 12 to 18 months. What is your experience on this?this is an edit,....I see now that it says "bottled in 1994" my mistake, but what is the longest you have had something opened and was still good?I have a bottle of Remy-Martin XO and one of Grand Marnier 150th Anniversary, both purchased and opened in 1990. As far as I'm concerned, both still taste as good as new. "When you have a pig that good, you don't eat him all at once." :slappin:Tim
