Followed up the nog with my firstever taste of Four Roses Small Batch. Not bad. Difficult to get too much of a read on it, as it is difficult to cleanse the palate of egg nog. I will need to follow up.

Fall and cold weather always turn me towards a nice single malt. In this case, Glenlivet Nadurra: cask strength and non-chill filtered. Apples and vanilla on the nose, grassiness, nuts, honey, vanilla and just a tiny bit of peat. Great stuff, and while not cheap, I think it's a great value.

I followed it with Sam Houston. Not my favorite bourbon, but it's ok. Maybe because I had started with scotch I was picking up some grassiness here too. It's not something I had noticed before.

I have Saz 6, Basil H, Old Forester, and Lot B in my cab, but I keep coming back to that bottle of ETL.

However, Friday night I experimented: Bombay Sapphire, Cherry Heering, and orange juice on ice. Dirty brown, yet very tasty indeed!

Michter's US 1 Rye. Nice stuff. It's only 3 yo, but it seems like it has more time than that in the barrel. Vanilla is very noticeable, for instance. Frankly, it's overpriced compared to Rittenhouse BIB rye and baby Saz, but I do like it.

Well tonight started off good...2007 Saz 18, make it 2 and then I went to some ER 10 yr. (a stellar bottle) followed up by a find this evening ...released in 1995 47.5% abv Jim Beam with the flip top. very smooth for Beam but I still found it one dimentional!!! closed the night up with some 2007 ER 17 yr.

Oh yeah I won $50 bucks at poker tonight but that was only half my bourbon bill tonight  !

EC 12yr, I'm starting early, dag nabit! I stopped on the way home from work and got me some EC 12yr for the first time (I believe). Very nice bourbon.

I tried a bit neat first, as always, to get a feel of it. Then I added some ice and water. It taste pretty good neat, a bit fiery:hot: on my tongue (but most are). With the h2o it is mellow and sweet but has a bit of a tap water taste to it (no, I use filtered water). 'like the taste of water pipes, almost. I guess that is the metalic I have heard others describe in some bourbons but i haven't experienced before. hmmmm......smack....smack...I guess I'll have to ponder :drinking: this a while to decide how it will place in my favs.

ETL and a short pour of Blanton's. A salute to the fine people that work at Buffalo Trace. Come to think of it, I will end with a Saz Jr.

Started off this evening with a DC and Whiskey. I then finished off with some Old Fitz 90 from 1982.

At last, Saz 18 (2007). Finally, finally got some, after a 3 year search (ok, only the last few months really seriously).

Very nice. Not sublime like the Handy or the Stagg (the only other BTAC I've ever tasted, and those, too, only recently).

Wish I'd been able to get some before they watered it down, though.

Tonight, finally, I'm sipping on some BTAC.

I started with Sazerac Rye (non BTAC), then Sazerac 18, then Handy '06. Just a little sip to get the taste as a side by side comparison.

I also thought I bought ER 17 '07 since it JUST came in, turns out the distributor had some '06 in their warehouse as that's what I bought. Plust Stagg '07.

I'll do a side by side Stagg '06/'07 this weekend and some day I'll crack open the '05 for a vertical tasting..probably when '08 comes out. 4 years of STAGG!

So far I really enjoy the Saz 18. Handy is a little too big...I'm discovering that over 100 proof is beyond what I really like. Just means 1 cube of ice for the Handy/Stagg seems to do it well.

Tonight it's ERSB 10. Earlier tonight I had a short pour of Balvenie SB 15 (a single malt) that I bought yesterday to share with dinner guests and was surprised by how much I could taste the bourbon from the barrel. Balvenie doesn't seem to be on the peaty side so maybe the bourbon influence was more exposed. In any case, damn nice pour. Fifty bucks here in NH, too, so it's not too outrageous. Most I've spent on a bottle for myself, though.

Cheers!

Sweetwater Happy Ending Imperial Stout and a small pour of Ardbeg 10.

You are really showing your Colorado roots; good micro followed by a good whisk(e)y, a Colorado pastime. I like to go to 15c order a Bristol Winter Warlock Stout, followed with a Elijah Craig 18 y.o. and a Rocky Patel Edge (15c is one of our last legal cigar bars)

Tonight, I will be imbibing in Stagg '07 at 120 proof and some WLW '07.

got that Stagg last weekend! so how much water (and what kind) do you pour? what's the eyeball ratio!

anyways, just now tasting my first WILD TURKEY RUSSELL'S RESERVE 101  that i bought an hour ago in Claymont, DE... thanks to Ethan/MissingKY and his tip on a store that he saw had it about a month ago...there were two left...

funny, this store is a few yards from the Dunkin Donuts i often hit on the way to school!

anyways, tasty! but i need to let it spread it's warmth and wisdom before i can make a real judgement...

again, thanks Ethan!:toast:

any guess on how many bottles remain in the world unopened???:skep:
