SSBourbon1
Well, since my turkey was fully loaded with WT 101 and then grilled (man that was one great bird), I continued the theme through the day with more WT101, some Rare Breed, then finishes with Russel's Reserve. What a day!
Special Reserve
In honor of the day, I opened an early WTKS. I bought this a couple of years ago and when I got it the data on the neck of the bottle had already been faded.I had no trouble with the cork, it left only minor traces on the bottle and the tamper resistant seal left some adhesive on the pewter top which cleaned up with an alcohol wipe. The bourbon and pewter top are way cool. This is a rewarding drink. Will
bigtoys
Conclusion: We really like the 2007 Stagg as evident from the picture. I probably need to go get a bunker bottle as we made a nice dent in it. I gave a spare 2006 bottle to one of the guys who's gonna help me run some networking wire in the house. A couple of us "forced" ouselves to drink the WTAS in honor of the holiday, too. Four Roses also got some good reviews. By the end of the basketball game, we had turned the sound off and were listening to Rush in Rio, switching to the concert video during timeouts and commercials. Overall, it was a fun night. mgilbertva
2007 Thomas Handy - outstanding! At first I though it didn't compare well to the '06, but it grew on me. I tried it neat, then added water to bring it down. I tried it at around 90 proof, then around 100, and finally around 115 proof. Very good at that strength.A little lighter in color than last year: reddish-bronze. Tasting yielded molasses, some kind of evergreen (maybe juniper?), nutmeg and allspice, which comes up pretty quickly, and dash of red hots further in. Lots of leather in the middle and into the finish with wood. Despite the presence of wood, there's none or little of its associated elements like vanilla, caramel, maple, or brown sugar. There's a floral element right away, both on the nose, and oddly, the palate too, but we couldn't figure out what it was.
polyamnesia
in order to get the taste of Heaven Hill out my mind, memory, etc...i have had succint pours of WT RR101 (which was totally ruined by the HH...!..please see http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/showthread.php?p=103065#post103065 !).but then the Eagle Rare SB 10 mellowed the tongue a bit....and prepared it for a nice transcendance into Stagg 07...whew. CrispyCritter
I'm sharing the very last of my Ardbeg 1977 with my brother-in-law - a fitting farewell to an outstanding (and, sadly, irreplaceable) bottle. However, that means the Campbeltown Loch 25 will be coming into play soon, so all is not bad. I also brought my WT101 with me, but, he just isn't into bourbon. Oh well, that means more WT for me.
doubleblank
While not a big college sports fan.....I'm having some WT MDS 14yo to celebrate Texas A&M beating UT in football and whipping Ohio State's ass at the NIT basketball tournament in NYC.This is much sweeter than Tribute. Less intense on the nose, but a mouthfull of flavor.Randy
craigthom
Drank small samples of a lot of bourbons with my brothers, my sister-in-law, and her brother tonight. Not heavy bourbon drinkers, but the '07 Stagg (with a little water) was a huge hit.Earlier in the week I found a DSP-KY 14 OGD BIB, so we did a side-by-side with the current version. This was my first ND whiskey (since I started paying attention, anyway) and that butterscotch that everyone talks about was huge in the nose. The Rittenhouse BIB was the sleeper hit of the evening. They were shocked when I told them the price.
gothbat
I've been really into the rye lately. Started with some 07' THH and now some 07' Saz and afterwards maybe some of the WT rye I've been drinking these past few weeks.

Jono
This afternoon...after hauling Christmas boxes up from the basement...sat down and poured Rittenhouse Rye 100....I had not had it in few months...wonderful stuff....great nose...candy spice...taste..full, honeyed spice...simply a fantastic pour. How does it compare to other Ryes...such as PVW or Sazerac? Here is a review: http://www.liquorsnob.com/archives/2005/12/rittenhouse_bottled_in_bond_rye_whiskey_review.php"The nose was rich and had a scent of brown sugar, and while we remember smelling rye in our earlier years and wincing, this had none of the overpowering alcoholic tang we used to associate with rye.In the glass, we liked it even better (of course). The flavor was complex, with overtones of black strap molasses and the sweetness of caramel, and we even thought we could taste, for lack of a better term, a taste of rum and burnt sugar on the back end. ACDetroit
Well after lastnights adventure I'm playing it safe tonight, one glass of WTAS. I really like this stuff, it has all the nut and leather of WT but smooth as silk.Tony
SBOmarc
Buffalo Trace, my second bottle gone since finding it here in my locale. With a 1.75L bunkered. Value from BT in SoCal. Things could be worse.
HighTower
Tonight I had some ETL, BT, WR, Thomas Handy (which a guest decided they enjoyed and put a large dent in :skep:)And now, I think I will go to bed, as I have to be at work in 7 hours.Scott
NorCalBoozer
Well my 07 Handy did arrive the day before Thanksgiving so i am going to return to it....after some 07 Saz. This is my first taste of Handy as I missed out on the 06 Handy but have one in route from a fellow SB'er.I really like the 07 Handy and the Saz. I've pretty much become a rye head. gothbat
There was no WT Rye at the liquor store, or any other for that matter, so I got WT 101. Unsatisfied I turned to a little bit of Saz18. Good stuff, smells and tastes like sour green apples with a hint of pine.
whiskydude
Last night with some friends, we broke open my first ever 4 Wild Roses SB. Very nice neat, but a tiny splash of water helped cool the fire. Everyone enjoyed it. We then sampled some PVW 20 yr. and of course everyone enjoyed that! I was surprised but the Pappy seemed a little hotter after the 4 Roses. In hindsight we should have reversed that order. We started out calling it "Sunday Scotch night" a year or two ago, so we ended with some Aberlour 15 yr. A good post Thanksgiving fall night. Gillman
A vatting. Two ounces of Very Old Barton 100 proof. One ounce of Michter's 10 year old rye. Half-ounce of Jack Daniels Single Barrel. The result is something rather close to WT 101 but a bit more minty and it reminds me in particular of the 8 year international version I sampled recently. It is very drinkable neat, with ryeish tangs and a faint wood note in the background. Tastes soft and rich, with good length, very nice.Gary

NickAtMartinis
I started out with some PVW20, which I found very dissapointing. And, now I just poured a glass of ND OGD BIB. WOW!!!! What a difference in flavor! Strangely, I'd take a case of OGD over PVW20 right now.Strange how I'm tasting a buttery flavor to my OGD.

What a difference in flavor! .I did this once with a Pappy 20 followed by a Wild Turkey Rare Breed and it was a taste over-load, the WTRB was awesome.I saw in another post where you said Pappy 20 was one dimentional, I'd have to say it is not very complex. Have you had the PVW15 recently? If so, did you like it moreso than the PVW20? Was it complex?I've read many different points of view on PVW15 compared to the 20 and most seem to lean toward the 15. However, no one has really mentioned which was more complex.
