Today I gave a warm and loving home to two Lawrenceberg ORVW 10/107s. Looking forward to comparing it to my Frankfort bottle. Still no sign of that elusive 15yo!

I preferred the 15 over the 12 but with curiosity satisfied won't replace either. I do like that such bottles are being made available but if I'm going to pay a premium I want Barrel Proof, no filtering and a simple unadorned bottle with, preferably, a screw closure.

Regards,

Squire

There is nothing wrong with the Ezra B 15, I just like the 12 better. Since the 15 is no longer being made, If I were interested in getting a bottle to try I would have no hesitation in buying one if I came across it. The 12 isn't the most common but it is out there if you look!

I didn't buy anything today, however I finished a bottle of WTRB (My Favorite),but now I need to replace it. Any suggestions, remember I'm in upstate NY so selection is limited.

I hear you, NY. That WTRB is some fine stuff. What are you paying in NY? Here in CT, the best has been $32.99 plus tax.

I would recommend some ORVW10/107 or Weller Antique 107. Either one is just young enough, as a wheater, to be good. Though, I'm not sure what your take is on wheated bourbon. If rye is your thing, how about some OGD BIB or 114?

To clarify my comment that Ezra B 12 has a HH flavor profile. I should have said that it has a Evan Williams flavor profile to me. I was comparing Ezra B 12 to another 12 yr. rye bourbon, OC 12. I'm really not sure if there is similarity between Ezra B 12 and EC 12. I haven't had any EC 12 in quite a while. I liked the Ezra B 12 more than OC 12 or Weller 12. But, to be fair, I'm not a wheater fan.

What is wild card dinner, Tony?

Not a wild card dinner! A wild game dinner! The appitizeras are the best with duck and other game birds, and other game deer, bison, moose (not chocolate). For dinner was Steak and shrimp with some garlic mash pootato's with bacon, chives etc. Hand rolled cigars...a shitty bourbon selection but I did try some Oban 14 yr. for free and 15 yr. Delhwinne (? spelling). Got a ride home so all was good.

Last night I picked up a WLW 07, ER SB and a Lot B.

Of these I'm most excited to try the ER as it's bottled for the liquor store.

My first post!

I just picked up my first bottle of PVW 20, and my cousin is bringing over his ORVW 15 (which we opened about 2 weeks ago) so we can compare them tomorrow night.

Can't wait...

the BT antiques finally made it up here so I picked up some Saz. Also, the standard Buffalo Trace seemed to appear at the same time, hasn't been on the shelf in a long time, so I got a bottle of that for $20 as well. How old is the standard BT bourbon?

The 12yo is still in production, the 15yo is not. Good news is that it is still out there to be found if you look around a little. Good Luck and let me know what ya think of the 12.

The Ezra B's are VERY hit and miss, I tasted a 15 that was phenomenal this past summer, I believe Wade contributed that one to the party. And had a 12 year that was bad, I mean not just unpleasant or corked but straight up didn't finish the glass much less have any more from the bottle. It was the worst bourbon I'd ever tasted.

They are done by a bottler not a distiller so you never know what you'll get...

When I got home last night there was a package waiting for me which contained a leaking Cabin Still Hillbilly decanter. I suppose I'll decant it with my trusty stainless steel funnel and a coffee filter into another bottle and try it tonight since I assume the whiskey isn't getting any better. :/ Would have done it last night but it was late and there were no clean empties around.

In my big-city adventure, I was able to come up with an older bottle of Wathen's bottled in St. Louis in 2002. I guess you could say it is an 'older' bottle of Wathen's - but, since they bottle so infrequently it may actually be a 'newer' bottle all things considered. Anyhow, looking forward to opening it later in the evening.

For no reason whatsoever, while at the store earlier today I picked up a bottle of the standard Ancient Age 80 proof. It was cheap and I haven't had it in awhile. Might try it with seltzer.

I made the trip to Chicago and picked up all three offerings from Four Roses. Put a good dent into the small batch. The single barrel will be cracked open tomorrow during the GB Oakland game. I've been on a bit of a spree lately. Other notable purchases include GTS 07, VWFRR 13, Saz 18, Knob creek and JB white. The last two are for the holidays and those individuals that must mix.

Me? I didn't buy nothing yesterday.

But I received a Glenlivet 12you (thanks, neighbor down the street!) and an OFBB 2002 (thanks, Grain Brain!) for my birthday. Great pair of gifts.

Ben, you are truly a magnificent friend. Now, when do you wanna open this bad boy?

Yesterday, WT 12YR Split Label. $46.00+tax. Bottled 5-7-98.

I left a bottle of Wathens and a Rebel Yell with a fake tax strip on the cap in the store. They wanted $20.00 for the Rebel Yell. The state price is $13.95.

I don't recall seeing Wathens on the shelves in MI before nor have I ever seen it listed in the on-line book.

Are these bottles worth going back to purchase?

Possibly, the early bottlings of Wathens are quite well liked around here, and depending on age the Rebel Yell could be S-W stock.
