What bourbon did you purchase today? (Fall '07)

I guess this is no longer bottled, correct? I can't find it. Can you say how the BIB compares to Signature or the Birthday bottlings?

I think he was referring to Old Fitzgerald (rather than Old Forrester). I'm pretty sure that the Old Fitz BIB is still being made, as I have recently found bottles from 2007 (07 stamped into the glass on the bottom). In my experience, the older stuff is much better. I have some from 2001 that is outstanding, and I also have some from 2005 and 2006 that I didn't really care for at all (and all these that I mentioned were distilled at DSP-KY-1 and bottled at DSP-KY-31). Of course if you find any even older bottles (from DSP-KY-16, the Stitzel-Weller Distillery), I'd recommend buying them. I may have to pick up one of the '07 bottles next time I see one, just to see if maybe I just got some 'off' bottles from '05 & '06.

Today, I purchased '06 and '07 Staggs, '07 Weller, XO, ORVW 10/107 (for you, Tony ) and the Handy. There was one more Handy but I left it there not knowing if I like it or not. The WLW was the last. I didn't see any ER.

In my grips was an EC12, but when I saw the XO I put it down.

I picked up an old EW Mellenium bottle today for $26.99 and yes Betty Jo I checked it and it was not a leker, yeah!! Looks nice so I had to have it.

Finally, I found some OF BIB. It's not a SW and it's real good stuff. Not complex, very straight forward but a solid bourbon, especially for the price.

is it hard to find? i have seen a bottle lurking along with a bunch of lower proof OFs....oh, and a few big bottles of the Signature?

I just purchased this fall's bottling of GTS and really like it. I have not had any of the previous bottlings, so I can't compare, but this one has a nice bold flavor and great nose to me.

I like it best when I add just a bit of water, probably cutting it to about 110 proof.

I just heard that a store nearby has a bottle of PVW 23 year, so I'm off to buy it this afternoon.

Found an Elijha Craig 12 for $ 18.99 this afternoon that's $1.00 under the state min so I grabbed it. I also found a first release of the Jeffersons Reserve 15 year with the glass top $49.99 first release if I redo the Bar it will look good on display. I know if it gets opened the cork will break its common.

I guess I could have mentioned above that day before yesterday I found a 1L bottle of OGD BIB distilled & bottled at DSP-KY-14 stamped 93 on the bottom. I look forward to having my first taste of the revered "ND" OGD by this weekend.

Am curious to hear what you think of it. I found mine rather woody and off-putting. I like the current OGD BIB better.

I was hoping to snag a PVW20 for the bunker but they were out. Instead I grabbed some WT101 Rye and Michters US 1 Rye. I love the WT rye and had been curious about this lone bottle of Michters for quite some time. I recently noticed it at another store not far away priced more than 50% higher so I figured it would be wise to grab the lower priced bottle while it was still available. Yeah, I know, not bourbon although that was the intention... I think I got a decent deal on the Michters but such a variation in price at stores so few miles apart kinda makes me wonder.

My first BTAC T Handy. I'm saving the the opening until todays Green Bay game. Also snapped up a ER SB since it has been awhile since I seen one here in Wisconsin. Also 1 more GTS for the bunker. This spirit just seems to jump into my glass so we'll see how long it takes me to crack open this one.

I've only had one bottle of the current OGD, and now this older bottle of the 'ND' OGD, and I'm liking this older ND bottle more.

Picked up 2 bottles of Rittenhouse BIB yesterday based on suggestions from Todd in Issaquah. Very nice stuff. Tried some neat, with ginger brew, and mixed with 7 up last night . Nice all the way around for $15/bottle! Mixing up a Manhattan in a little while.

EWSB....interesting in making the taste connection to a Scotch.

My opinion on this review? The guy's a dork. If he thinks that the EWSB 96, or any EWSB for that matter, resembles Lagavulin... Well, I could relieve myself in his snifter, and I'm sure he'd get a "sherried speysider, with a hint of anise...blah, blah blah..") It's BOURBON! And, IMO, really, good BOURBON! Keep to your Scotch reviews, Sparky.

Ahem...(as I compose myself) Aside from my rant on this review Jono, I think you will really enjoy this fine bourbon. Santa is being good to you this year!

No problem, Tony. It's the least I could do. As for the side-bys-side of ORVW 10 vs. Antique, I tried that last week or so and the ORVW 10 won out handily.

I'm telling you, if I can consistently get ORVW 10/107 for $26.99, I'll buy up as many as I can.:grin:

So I headed due South where I'd not been before, and I took a hard right as I found the first store.

I looked on the shelf and what could it be? WTKS 97' Pewter Top just for me?

" The level is low can you give me a deal?" State regulated prices! So how does that feel?:shocked: Some old Rare Breed minis is that what I see? If you take the bottle I could throw in three. (deal)

So back in my car and to the next store, the 2 that I found I'd never seen before (personally and in MI that is), one Cream of Kentucky, and Wild Turkey Tradition! I guess I can stop all my Christmas wishin. Not sure how they taste but I'll take them both. Can't wait to get home for the Christmas toast.

One more store should I try. what the heck I'm still out. The girls were still sleeping so know one would shout.

The last store for the day and what do I see, EW with 7 yr. old on the shoulder, now come on could it be? EW was deep on shelf so I said I'll take 2! But only one with the statement, so only one then I flew!

So into my car and back to the house where know one was stirring not even a mouse!

Well the girls are up now and I did not catch any crap. The hunting was done during their 2 hour nap! :grin:

The store by me was trying to get me some more of this years William Larue Weller but they wound up getting the wrong thing and got W.L. Weller Special Reserve in instead. It was a pleasant surprise and not a disappointment though, I'd been wanting to try Weller Special Reserve for some time but have never seen it around and at $20 the price was right!
