I did not see the post that Tony AKA ACDetroit made that got deleted, but I guarantee that it was not for his personal profit.

Far, far from it, if anything he was just helping a Brother out.

Oscar,

I did see it and I drew the same conclusion that you did.

Will

PS. I do understand why things are this way.

Picked up Handy for $65 today at Post Wines.

Slob, I'm glad to see you picked up a bottle of Handy! Enjoy!

When I first got involved in this site, I made one posting about a bourbon that I found at a certain price, and asked whether it was a good deal and worth buying. Apparently it was a great deal, and I was flooded with PM requests. I asked some senior members (sorry about the use of the word senior) for advice, and they advised I avoid getting into the illegal business of selling bourbon, and I followed that advice.

I would guess that Brothers who want to help Brothers can do so outside of this site. While not something I would ever get entangled in, of course others can take any risk they want. However, it should not touch this site.

I do sympathize with those who cannot easily get to Kentucky or other limited markets where gems such as the Antique Collection are sold.

My recommended solution would be to drive to Cincinnati for a holiday shortly after the Antique Collection is released. Enjoy some Cincinnati-style chili, some Graeter's Ice Cream, the Taft Art Museum, the Cincinnati Zoo, etc. etc., and drive across the Ohio River to northern Kentucky and visit some great liquor stores (Party Source, Party Town, Cork n' Bottle, to name a few). Fill your trunk and have a great time while doing it.

First off let me apologize to virus of life he was just doing his job as moderator and by the letter of the law he's right. I can have a short fuse at times. I just didn't think Tony had done anything deceitful in placing that post. His intentions were honorable and I thought a lot of people would like the info in tailed in it. But I can now see if we allow ads posted on here that's all this site will become. So we have to strictly enforce that policy no matter how innocent the intention is.

So where is the line here? If a member points to a particular site or outlet that's ok, but posting a url is over the boundary?

I'm not challenging the concept, just seeking some clarification.

I'd like to know as well as I might have a hot line on a really good price for PVW 23 that I'll share with you folks if it pans out.

I believe you'll find the answer is that, when in doubt, ask a mod via pm.

Here in the Forum Rules it is stated:

Please note that advertisements, chain letters, pyramid schemes, and solicitations are inappropriate on this web site and will not be tolerated.Commercial interests are prohibited from posting here except when prior arrangements have been made with Straightbourbon.com management.

Seems fairly clear to me that the discretion is with management. It's not so much about 'right' and 'wrong' but to show respect and get clearance when you're in the grey zone.

Send the mods or the Boss a message when you're not sure - get to know them and treat them as your friends. And if they're not the type whom you want to be your friends, then why would you want be here in the first place?

Roger

I didn't see the original message, so I can't say if the message was in the commercial interest. It wasn't too hard to figure out which site was being mentioned. We talk all the time about when we find new releases at our local stores, chains or favorite websites, I'm not sure why this one was different, but I'll defer to the powers-that-be.

In other news, Happy Repeal Day!

but the price is so good in AZ $46-48

I paid $54.99 apiece for the WLW.

I bought a bottle of George T Stagg last week in Jackson, MS, for $51.

NYS is keeping with the ~$54/btl price point.

-and there was plenty more post in this price range...

WOW! I wish I lived farther away... for what I bought/spent... I would own an extra 5 bottles from the collection! :hot: Your business owners are not near the uppity smiling greedy thieves like the ones in Nashville TN are! We pay $75 a bottle minimum, $80-$85 in all but that place! :hot:

The bourbon is great, amazing really, each one on its own merits! (Stagg is what got me drinking bourbon) It is a shame to be taken such advantage of just for liking their bourbon and living here, 211 miles from the distillery. No shipping any alcohol to/in TN, lucky for these greedy store owners. If I would have known I was being taken for a 50+% price increase per bottle for nothing other than greed, I would have driven to the distillery or Louisville and shopped there. Gas and an extra 4 bottles with a nice trip thrown in... :smiley_acbt: I should have checked the net 1st, but a friend let me try some Stagg for the 1st time and I loved the stuff... limited he said, so get it now or it will be gone... so I did... along with the WLWeller, THHandy, & EagleRare17. I was in love with each bottle for its own character and grandeur...

...Now I am bitter and will not buy any of this collection in the state again... even if I have to do without... for the simple fact I do not want to, and will not, promote nor encourage this type of retail price gouging thievery. I understand money is just money, but damn principle... I can not seem to swallow it easily or tastefully when I could have more bottles of one-of-a-kind bourbon to drink!!! Maybe they should start distilling 'principle' in Buffalo Trace for us TN. bourbon lovers? It would have to taste decent... :skep:

I second this statement:

"It’s $80-$85 a bottle in Nashville TN. area. All the shops price gouge terribly on the whole BTAC, and more. They would rather make extra $ with un-ethical and low ball price gouging tactics, effectively stealing from their ‘valued’ customers, as work harder to make year end profits the same. They would rather swindle the $ from their customers pocket and say that extra charge is because they ‘do it with a smile’ and ‘because we can’ were the excuses I heard… just thieves without a conscious and therefore an inability to be ethical."

i am wondering why we, in PA, are just NOW getting the BTAC in stores now....my local has only the Stagg (later than usual)...13 miles away, the other bottlings were on the shelf (except Stagg).

i think we are getting decent prices...Stagg and Handy Saz at $53.99.

just got the 6 year old Saz....it is really nice. sweeter and less spicey than i would've imagined.

i will HAVE to go and get that Handy Saz...proof is in the 120s

Yes, you must, but be very very careful... the Handy is purely addictive I've found. I love the Pappy 13yr Rye private selection, but the Handy is purely delicious and with more rye spice! It even drinks fine straight at 127.5proof, with not as much heat as expected, although a few drips of water opens it up and gives dimension to the texture imho.

Not to knock the Pappy13yr Rye at all, its smoothness and structure with great balance is outstanding and only $55-btl here.

I've tried several waters so far, and if you have it around, the Ty Nant water goes great with all the BTAC barrel proof's. Nice palate cleansing water too between tastings. The Kroger market has it here.

thanks!

i was already impressed with the one Van Winkle i've had (12 years reserve), but then, at almost half the price, i prefer the baby Saz i just got today!

now it comes to the Handy....will make that leap tomorrow. i am excited. my wife, well....

anyways, Ty Nant...isn't that from Wales? it's excellent in both the bubbly and not-bubbly versions. nice bottles, too!

Hope you grabbed some. That's a foolish price. 65 down here in -16 wind chill chi-town.

Wish I could've but I was on a mission for Van Winkles and 4Roses and could not be distracted.

Finally picked up 2 each of the Handy Saz & ER17 this week....trying the Handy Saz right now and WOW! This stuff is so smooth and rich, there are so many flavors in there that keep unfolding that I couldn't begin to recognize all of them. I can't believe how high the proof is compared to how easy it drinks...with a little water it is velvety, sweet & silky.

I finally got around to getting Saz and Handy, $88/ea. Bummer. Same store also has ER and Stagg...but they'll have to wait at these prices. I know of other places to hunt for Stagg and ER so hopefully they'll come out cheaper.

First time I've bought bourbon in forever. Shared a tasting with a few of my beer buddies, they thought this was awesome. Asked what a comparable beer would be, I said, "This is the Westy 12 of the bourbon world."

Here in St. Louis I am still finding the Handy and the Weller at $48 per bottle.

Can somebody explain how distributors work? Or is quantum tunneling involved?

I recently found a few bottles of '08 Stagg, and got really excited...until I saw the price. The cheapest I've seen is $75, on up to $140 (!). I doubt the latter will ever sell out...

Hope I can get a better deal when the '09 is released...

I think the Fall 2008 Eagle Rare blows the doors of the GTS08 or the Saz08. I didnt understand why everyone was so excited by this BTAC thing until I popped open the ER17.

I wouldnt sell you my ER17 if you offered me $200 for it. Granted, I am in Japan so it would be almost impossible for me to get another one, but there you have it. I guess I am as big a jerk as that guy.
