I should be flogged due to the number of bottles open in my bar. There are so many for two reasons:

1) I wanted to see what it tasted like.

2) I don't have any bourbon-drinkin' friends to come over and polish'em off -__-

On with the disappointment:

1) OWA NAS

2) 4R SB

3) KC SB

4) Willett 7yr

5) Old Grand Dad 80proof

6) Jim Beam Black 8 yaer

7) Maker's 46

8) Maker's Mark

9) PHC Cognac Finished (5th ed)

10) PVW 15 2008

11) WLW 2010

15) JPS 18 Batch 25

16) WT 101

17) BT

18) EC 12yr

19) WR

20) WR DO

21) WR MC Maple-wood Finish

22) 4R SB LE 2011

23) Vintage Bourbon 17

24) WT RB

25) EW SB Vintage 2000

And that's just the bourbon.............................<runs and hides>

I tend to only keep a handful of bottles open at any one time, especially with rye as it tends to get worse with oxidation (though Private Preserve helps). Currently, I have open 7 bottles which will last me a good few months:

Black Maple Hill 23

Going forward, I'm going to keep it to 10 or fewer open bottles of fine bourbon/rye at a time, not including mixers. It might take a while to get there because many of these are still above half full. However, I started a new practice. Once I get to the last part of the bottle, I've been decanting the remainder into 4oz sample bottles so I don't get the urge to buy/open another one right away. I'm dying try some new stuff I've acquired (PHC27/Cognac, FR GS stuff, Campfire, V17, EC18, Taylor Barrel Proof) but there's only so much whiskey I can drink during the summer. Also, I clearly need more friends that drink whiskey.

Just the bourbons/ryes, in order of preference:

2010 WLW

FR Mariage 2009

2011 PVW 15

2011 GTS

WT 101 Rye (don't like)

KCSB (don't like)

Maker's 46 (don't like)

I'm always blowing through bottles of Saz Jr. and Rittenhouse, so I don't count those.

I might have asked before but...how does it taste? There's another bottle of this I can buy if it's worth a damn.

As a liquor store owner I know said once, "It's Old Charter".

I actually emailed BT about it. It's Buffalo Trace, Old Weller Antique, and Sazerac Rye mixed. Ratio is unknown. I haven't cracked mine open, I just want to know what the flavor profile is...

B, the easiest way for you to find out what the flavor profile is...is to open it, and take a swig...

Here's a thread about it back in 2010 but nobody mentioned how it tasted either. Let us know. http://www.straightbourbon.com/forums/showthread.php?14252-Charter-Private-Reserve

Re: the Old Charter Private Reserve

I thought I posted some tasting notes somewhere, but I can't find them now. I'll have to do a bit of writing and sampling tonight then.

From what I remember it's basically Old Charter with a bit more finish, I'll post a new thread about it in Tasting.
