I finally made it down to 10 open bottles. Two more should be gone within the next couple days.

What to open next? Taylor Barrel Proof or Four Roses Gift Shop 17yo OBSV? I'm leaning towards the latter...

Right now I have open:

Four Roses Single Barrel

William Larue Weller 2012

George T. Stagg 2012

Jim Beam White Label (mixed drinks for guests)

Lagavulin 16

Balvenie 15 Single Barrel

Glenmorangie Nectar D'Or

Ardbeg Uieagail

Ardbeg Corryvreckan

Ardbeg 18 Cask Strength Single Barrel

Laphroaig 16 Cask Strength Single Barrel

Glenlivet 14 Cask Strength Single Barrel

Glenfarclas 17

Glenfarclas 21

Glenfarclas 30

Sailor Jerry's Spiced Rum

Many of them are open, but at the back of the cabinet for more special occasions. Unfortunately the Lagavulin 16 and Four Roses Single Barrel won't be with us much longer. Fortunately I'm heading to Lexington next weekend to visit Buffalo Trace and Four Roses and will be stocking up on gift shop specials, and BIB bottles from the local stores.

I have a bunker, most of which I stocked years ago and am in the process of drinking. Except for the Ridgemont Reserve, I don't think I've bought a new bottle of bourbon this year; I still buy scotch but for bourbon I just keep bringing up the musty dusties.

Anyway, I keep 6-8 open bottles, half scotch, half bourbon, and try to emphasize variety. Right now what's available for pour are:

1. Van Winkle Reserve Rye (good for the very occasional rye fix)

2. Ridgemont Reserve (my first Barton bourbon in a long time. Great with barbecue)

3. Very Special Old Fitzgerald 12 yo (just opened this dusty for Thanksgiving. One I've been waiting to crack a long time! Superb)

4. Four Roses Single Barrel (a new classic)

5. Laphroaig 10 (an old classic; forget all the gimmick Laphroaigs, this one still has that balanced contrast of citrus and smoke that can't be beat)

6. Deanston 12 yo (this is the new 46% non-chilled filtered version - amazingly good, especially if you like Balvenie Single Barrel)

7. Tobermory 10 (briny, really good)

8. Glenmorangie Lasanta (good, but disappointing next to the Glendronach it replaced as the sherried dram)

I must be really afraid something is going to happen to all the bourbon & rye of the world. Let's see what I have open after tossing a 2011 WLW in the trash,

I have a

V21, B&B selection of OWA, OWA, PHC 6th Ed & 2012 4RsmbLE.

That is it!

I recently pulled out out all of my almost empty bottles & made a point to finish them. They are gone, time to open a few things. Thanks for reminding me.

This is a nice wide selection, get many more open than this and you'll have to start consciously trying to finish things. But you need something from Islay, besides the Legend :-)

Hmmm, good point. I'm not much for peated whiskies by my wife absolutely loves them. In my rather slim bunker I do have a bottle of Bowmore 15 yr darkest and a Bruichladdich Rocks but otherwise nothing from Islay. I tend to collect the sweeter scotches as those are more to my liking.

What I really need are some good bourbons in the $20-40 range to sip on. It's still possible to get a good bourbon for cheap (compared to scotch) but I've not done a very good job exploring that range very well. However, I do think I'll be grabbing some Weller 12 year based on what I've been reading here.

The $20-40 range is the sweet spot for decent bourbon, for sure. Of course, the first thing I'll say you need is $45, but whatever....get that Blanton's Single Barrel, you'll thank me later. If you're trying for that $30 point, definitely go for some Weller Antique for wheaters or Four Roses SmB, you'll be happy. You can also search a thread I did that got a LOT of traction called "What's your favorite pour under X?", you'll find a TON of choices there for sure!
