Did a nice tasting last evening with 6-7 good friends..... JDSS, Bowman BS Rye from PS and a Willett 6yo from 2007 (Pear Tree). All three were good pours with the Willett and Bowman neck in neck for the best.

JDSS was very good and quite a bit better than most JDSB's that folks had tasted.

Just opened my first-ever bottles of Van Winkle Lot B and Weller 12yo. Am very much enjoying comparing and contrasting these two tasty pours.

Figuring on what would be appropriate for April's Fool Day.

I decided to also join the task. I have chosen Old Charter 10.

The reason for it being my April Fools Bourbon is that when I saw the throw back gray "Aged Ten Years" bottle, I confused it for some unique OC that I had never before seen (maybe the 12 or the PR.).

In retrospect though, this is a whiskey that I would not have otherwised tried...and that would have been a tremendous shame.

I like the OC 10 Eric, it had been quite awhile but having just finished one I believe this lighter style of Bourbon has a place in my lineup.

I wholly agree. I really enjoy it. Although I think it to be a really good value...it's price shouldn't hide the fact that it is simply good.

(And just to be clear Squire, I was the fool...not the OC!)

Come on folks, surely someone else here has also played the role?

Started with some HW Rendevous, then a PVW20 followed by a larger pour of PVW15. Need with month end at work.

Starting the evening with Weller 12 as a light intro but there will be some vatting later.

A 50/50 vatting of Weller 12 and Rittenhouse Rye BIB, this is a good combination.

Tonight I am having several pours of Rit BIB and will finish the evening with a pour of Bowman Virginia Rye Barrel Strength.

Squire I am not very experienced with calling out the flavors in whiskey so bear with me.

Old Charter 10, I get corn and rye notes along with barrel char. Also some light floral notes.

Charter 101, I get sweet corn, some wood spice and a touch of vanilla. That's the best I can do. I used to judge a whiskey as I like the flavor. Since finding this site I am trying to expand my knowledge and tasting skills.

Baby Saz, GTS'10, ETL15, EC18

The GTS and ETL were the winners. As usual, something I hadn't found before in the Stagg. A nice licorice in the aroma and finish.

A relaxed day reading was supported by Leopold Bros Maryland Rye and EWSB 2000.

This evening, I'm kicking back with a PVW20.

I had some 1988 vintage demerara rum distilled by Enmore before dinner yesterday and Handy 2010 after. The rum is on the light, dry side, but very appetizing and good.
