sutton
I find that the twangy cedar note can come from barrels that are toasted prior to charring. I get that in some of BF's products, and they use barrels like that I think.Curious as to why that would be - I would think the charring would obliterate the toasting - or do the heads stay toasted and only the body gets charred? Flyfish
Anyone know if this stuff will show up in the great control state of Ohio?Mine showed up on 9/10/12 because I brought it back from Lexington. Other than that, we are as flies to the Ohio Liquor Gods, they kill us for their sport.
sutton
Found one today on the North Shore - $23.99 with the $10 rebate tag ... had a sample, and this is a great value esp. considering the $14 net price. The HH mint is well in the background but the signature is there, and a nice dry hay note on the back of the palate along with the maple/vanilla/caramel notes. Really well done - can't believe this is the same juice as Old Fitz BiB ...
jburlowski
Finally got around to trying it tonight. Agree with Rod's comments in general but didn't find it particularly thin. Like the vanilla / toffee notes. I'm liking it more than I expected to. Overall. a very nice pour. Certainly better than the other OFs; with the exception of VSOF.At the price I paid ($21.99 before the intro rebate) and by taste. it's hands down better than MM (faint praise and all that). By the packaging and MSRP I'm guessing it's aimed at MM. At a bar, I'd take this over the usual suspects any day.For my money (and at the price I paid), OWA is the better buy. But, all in all, Larceny is a good pour and certainly worth your consideration.

MyOldKyDram
Tried it twice and haven't been able to fully get into it, yet. Will try again in a week or two and see what's up.

I bought a bottle of it and while I think it's decent it hasn't impressed me too much. Like said above, I will come back to it after some time and see if my opinion of it changes. BMartin42
Finally got to try it. Found it thin and pretty one-dimensional. For $3 less I'll take the OWA for sure over it. The local Sam's club has MM for the same price as the Larceny. I don't have any open to compare but I'm thinking for the same price I'd rather have the MM to be honest. I plan on giving it a few days and trying again. You never know. Thoughts may change.
Bourbon Boiler
Got 3 50 mL bottles today to give it a shot with friends. Pretty smooth, not much excitement, decent value but there are better ones out there.
theglobalguy
Seeing it marked down locally in Louisville, KY. Not sure if in response to lack of sales or a planned event, but only started this week after starting off at full price.

weller_tex
It is a little cheaper here in Houston than MM, but no rebate. I was a little disappointed. It is good but not a lot going on, I like Weller SR and MM a little better, and Old Weller 107 much better..Larceny is not even close to Weller 12. I will let it sit for a week or so and then try it again.

sutton
Toasting goes deeper into the wood than charring. The effects of toasting are retained by all but the charred layer itself.

I suspect it may be better after some time as the best pour I had was at a local restaurant from an open bottle.I did leave KY with a case of 1.75 Weller 12 though........... compliance
I made up my mind on it. I think it has promise but it's noticeably too young. I'll take any Weller by far.
cowdery
For the last couple weeks, I've been switching back and forth between Larceny and the Everett's Weller 12 (Stitzel-Weller whiskey). The Larceny doesn't win, but it holds its own. That's saying something. It's not young but it's not old, it's middle-aged. The Weller 12 is older, but neither one is a Pappy. For what it is, I like Larceny. I have now had enough of it to know I'll always be happny to drink it.

I'll be buying another to replace the bottle that became one of the empties at the gazebo in just 2 nights.

Flyfish
· Hidden Hidden Didn't your purveyor of spirits provide a rebate coupon? I paid $40 for 1.75 but it came with a $20 rebate. I told my wife that if we didn't like it, we could always serve it to guests who insist on putting alien substances in their whiskey. Link to comment

Tony
Got to try this at the Festival and it was not that bad, not that great, but not that bad. I did bring a bottle home as I do not know when it will make it to Michigan. Best regards, Tony
Ejmharris
I bought a 1.75 after the HW tasting at TPS. A couple of neighbors and I knocked back half that night and finished the rest in Cumberland last weekend. I really enjoy it. I love OWA and for the same price I will keep both in the liquor cabinet. They have different profiles and I like them both and I dont feel the urge to pick one over the other The bottle I tasted had lots of oak in it and tasted like it had older whiskey in it. IMHO this is the best thing that has come out in this price range in a long time. Nice job HH!
