I'm done for the year unless I get a call from one of the several VA ABC stores I put in special orders at...and let's just say my phone has not been ringing off the hook.

Got the call this morning and in the early afternoon picked up a WLWx2 and a Handyx2.

Its been said, and worth repeating, make nice with your retailer, and they will make nice to you.

That, and the occasional gift bottle to them doesn't hurt either.

CEHT SmB. First time I've seen it in on the shelves. Really enjoy the Barrel Proof and Tornado so I picked one up.

Picked up a Ritt BIB DSPKY354. Passed it over a couple times so decided to get it this time. I did pass on a Hirsch 25yo Rye for about $180. Anybody have an opinion on this one?

That's a ridiculously high price for a NPP (no provenance provided) brand trading on a former reputation.

That's not a bad price on the 25. All three of the Hirsch rye are good, with the 22 being nothing short of stellar. If you are interested, you can find my notes here.

I read those notes LB and they are very good, detailed, well thought out and to the point. Have you had the opportunity to sample the 21-25 year old Rittenhouse expressions? I would like to hear how they compare with the Hirsch.

You can be a purist, I'll be a pourist.

Facts are facts, 180 < 220.

Thanks for the notes LB, that was the info I was looking for. $180 is a bit steep for me at the moment plus I have a few unopened ryes in the bunker to work through so I won't be picking that one up any time soon.

I had a clever classmate in college and an old professor (I mean the guy was old, born in the 1890s) who upon hearing my friend's latest retort leveled his gaze and in an even voice said, "You are smartazzcanbe", say that fast and it's funny.

I had one of those weird, magical days today. Went to my favorite store to purchase their newly-arrived, private barrel selection of JPS 18 yr. After a fun discussion with the owner about S-W and wheated bourbons, he asked if I wanted to buy some PVW for comparison. Hmmm, let me think. Needless to say, I jumped at the chance and walked away with a PVW 15-year to go with my JPS. Then, as I was checking out, my cell phone rang. I didn't answer but called the number back once I was out of the store. It was one of the locations for a larger liquor store in the area telling me that my name was on the list for Pappy and I had my choice of the 10, 12 or 15 years. I opted for the 15 and then went directly to that store, where I walked away with my second bottle in less than an hour. I seriously can't believe my good fortune.

Wife might think I'm crazy, but it's already been a great Christmas.

Saw the local shop had a new batch of Booker's, which is a big favorite of mine, but I think the label is wrong. It's batch c05-a-12 7 year 5 month, and labeled 64.5% 128.5 proof. Shouldn't it be 129 proof? Have I had a few too many tonight?

No set proof on Booker's. Mine is 126.6.

Oh, I know that, my last bottle was c04-j-19 64.6% 129.2 proof, but this batch says 64.5% 128.5 proof on the label. Aren't those numbers irreconcilable with one another?
