What non-whisk(e)y spirit are you drinking?

Is there a version of Fernet that is more refined or of a higher-quality base spirit?  Amaro, more generally? 

I wanted to love Fernet-Branca but had trouble finishing the bottle as I found the spirit to be a bit grainy and harsh.  

 

Would welcome recommendations for a Fernet that is of the quality necessary for me to stand it as a sipper?   

Dying to try this with a black coffee sometime soon, too.  Imitation as the highest flattery!

Good question. In reality, it’s a “hair or the dog” tonic and not meant to be savored/enjoyed. The Bigallet China- China which was built to mimic the original Amer Picon is hard to best.
