Settling in with a VOB BiB ... first time I've had my feet up in 3 days ... this is good stuff.

A little Four Roses SmB (basic version) followed by WL 12. The weekend went by quick!

Abraham Bowman Last Milennium Whiskey. "Gimmick" and price be damned, this is fine stuff.

BMH NAS, tastes like walnuts. And that's not a compliment.

Manhattan w/ Lot B, Averna Amaro bitters, Carpano Antica vermouth and some dashes of Angostura bitters before dinner.

Jefferson PS 18 later; just acquired

VOB 86 - 6 yr. Not as good as it's big brother (1792) in my mind, but an excellent value pour on a night I wasn't planning on pouring.

Having a pour of WT101 from the mid 90's. Probably will pair it with a cigar soon :bandit:

Sipping on my first go at the SB blend, like it better than OWA but will have to do a head to head with W12..

Last night we opened some red white and blue wax makers from 2002 in the spirit of the week. Wow Makers used to be a lot better. Makers of 2002 really allows the wheat to shine through with butterscotch nodes all over. Side by side with the current offering I found MM to astringent, aggressive and very white doggish. Dusty hunt makers bottles now?

When we first did the MM tour, they only sampled MM & M46. When we went back a couple of months ago, they were also sampling their white dog, which struck me as a big mistake after tasting the samples. The standard MM didn't taste as though it had aged enough to set it far apart from their white dog and that gave a big advantage to M46 as the finishing added a sorely-needed dimension to the flavor. I don't think many others noticed, or at least they didn't give any hint they did. Most people didn't even finish their samples, which we thought was odd. I'm not knocking MM - it's not bad whiskey. I just think it could be a lot better if they would give it some time.

To do so would be to admit they hadn't been putting forth their best effort all this time.

Nobody tows a tighter company line than MM. 5.5yr old, wheat grained bourbon is the best bourbon possible. Anything else is at best a curiosity (MM46) or a lesser product (everything else).

Gonna have some EWB in a few.... I'm always surprised just how good it is, given the price point (I may have sneaked a few sips already). ;)

And I agree, it is a shame that MM doesn't offer one extra-aged expression. There's something good hidden in the standard MM, and like you all have said, it just seems to need a bit more time in the barrel.

I'm finishing my first SB bottle. It's been open for about 4 months and has been pretty tasty. I'm going to go through an OWA pick from TPS before blending another bottle 2:1 standard OWA.

This weekend it was Saz Jr, FR Yellow, GTS 2012.

Last week it was mostly Weller 12 and 114.

First try of Maker's Mark. I find it completely inoffensive, but also not very interesting. I thought I would start sampling some wheaters, but this wasn't an auspicious beginning. Maybe my wife will enjoy it!

Sure would like a tasting report on that & the OESO, for some reason I feel one of those may just be my ticket.

My one monthly pour of WSR7 from 1989. I have a suspicion I'll never have see another one of these bottles.

Maui, that OESO is very good. These are my first bottles of the O yeast and I am very impressed! The other day, the OBSO was my favorite, but today the OESO is really hitting the spot. Very good balance of spice from the rye and the fruit of the O yeast, crazy good! May have to make a third trip to the gift shop to stock up, I really love field trips!

I preferred the OESO over the OBSO as I feel the higher rye content masks some of the delicacy of the O yeast...that is the beauty IMO of it. Tonight I'm pouring some 11yr 10mo OESK from the gift shop...yummy stuff!

I also like the fact re these bottles that the low rye recipe OESO has a little extra age and vice versa on the OBSO.
