Josh probably won't brag about this, so:

Josh has put a ton of effort in the last year into starting the Appalachian Whiskey Society, and it's been a great success. He's got such an enthusiastic group of people that this barrel was completely spoken for.

Great job, buddy. Good on you. I can't wait to drink some.

Bottle #1 is dead, when's barrel #2?

Pretty cool indeed. I hope y'all enjoy. Is there a website to join up?!?

Standard BT, RHF (at $34.99, which is about $10 cheaper than I usually see it around here, if it can be found) and one of foureyedfox's favorites, the Dickel 9/103 store select.

if it's your first bottle of it, post your opinion. enjoy!

there's only a few more in Louisville, and I'm gonna try to get out and snag 'em this week. was it a large chain where you found yours, and were there many left?

I never had it before - and didn't crack it open last night (a rye night for me, RittBIB and THH'13), but am interested to try it. I'll let you know what I think.

This was from a liquor store that has three locations around here, so it's our biggest one in that sense. I didn't count, but I'd guess at least half a dozen and probably more still left on the shelf at the one where I was shopping yesterday. Also noticed a number at one of the other locations last weekend. They had a little copper colored chain/tag thing around the neck of the bottle, with the store's name on it.

From what I'd read, if the retailer wanted any, they had to buy an entire barrel's worth, which inclines me to believe that only chain stores of decent size bought/have any on the shelves. Around Louisville, that's definitely true, as only the one large chain store has any, and they are nearly gone. TPS up by Cincy has a decent amount still, but other than that, it's already gone around here, but the Lexington market may have some still. I am very interested to see if any more is released from Dickel after the shelves are cleared of it for some time. At the rate that the TPS store has been selling it, I imagine they might be hesitant to buy another entire barrels worth of it in the future.

Hope you enjoy it!

That's very nice of you to say, Jim. Honestly, it's pretty easy to get people excited about whiskey right now, and I do have a group of really enthusiastic guys (and girls) on board. This selection couldn't have been a better experience. I was pleased to have the help of MOKD, as well as some off-the-forum friends, in making the pick. We'll definitely be looking into more selections over the summer, and possibly a rye whiskey before the end of the year.

Was a great experience and I was honored to be a part of AWS' first pick. Also can't wait to get my grubby lil hands on mine! Again, congrats, and can't wait to see what you have lined up next!

Sounds like an awesome experience. Nice to have an "in" with the Smooth Ambler folks. I'll be interested in knowing when we can get some of their self-distilled bottlings around here, as I've been a fan of what they've put out so far.

Today was a day of age statements. First, picked up two more liters of Kirkland 7/103 for $20 apiece. I figure Beam 7 year 103 proof bourbon along the lines of KC and Bakers won't be any cheaper or more available any time soon.

Next, hit up Total Wine. Grabbed the last FC (6/103) from the shelf for $15. Can't go wrong with FC at that price.

Last, I saw a row of eight 1792 bottles. I always pass up 1792-never bought a bottle. I figured now may be the time with 1792 going NAS. So I looked at each bottle. First 6, NAS. Last two were the age stated. Having only seen the NAS around recently, I bought those two, and my buying was done.

A 2000 EWSB 2 ea BIB JW Dant, 2 ea OF VS12, and 2 WSR with the 7 years on the label if that makes a difference.

Couple of OWAs, not a big find by any means but with the supply being limited I was happy to see it on the shelf.

Thinking really hard about going back tomorrow and picking up the other 2.

you don't see the WSR in the new bottle with the age statement too often unless i'm mistaken, must've been a small transition period

i bought one like that not too long ago and sure didn't like the juice. hope it has opened up some.

Those new label bottles with the age statement came out around 2009 and were used until sometime in 2012/2013 when the age statement was dropped. It's very common to see them along with the older paper labels around here.

I'm with you on the taste of that juice. I didn't like it much either. It hasn't opened up much on mine unfortunately:(

couldnt resist........

this makes 7 bunkered. There are only 3 more in louisville. Id have grabbed them too, but I have a personal thing......I will only buy bourbon/whiskey if I have the cash on me to do so. If I allowed myself to use the card for liquor, Id have a monstrous stash.

I need to stop stashing. I have a case of HH 6 BIB, 9 KC120's, 7 Dickel 9's, a WFE 8 year, and an EHTSmB all unopened, plus what I have open. That would lube me for several years. I have taken my New Years resolution of only buying my favorites and run with it. Someone smack me if I post any more purchases on here any time soon!

Still got just the one wife though, eh? That's how I used to respond when questioned about my buying habits.

Awesome price on AAA 10 year. (Under cost in KY) Grab all you can since it has been retired. We were one of the last places to have any left. We ran out this week.
