Impulse buy at near the register I grabbed a JW Double Black. It's a little sad when I pick up a bottle of scotch like it's a candy bar.

Returned a bottle of Forty Creek "Confederation Oak" and exchanged for an Isle of Jura "Prophecy"

I'm curious why you returned the confederation oak, have you tried it before? Thats supposed to be a good bottle, though I have yet to open mine so I can't comment from experience.

Yes, I have tried the confed oak - albeit a small sample.

I have tried reeeeeeaaaaalllllly hard to like Canadian whisky generally, and Forty Creek in particular, but just can't enjoy it. The only two that I can stomach (actually enjoy) are Lot no 40 and Wiser's Legacy. Both of which are close to the American straight rye style.

IMO, the FC limited editions are very expensive for what they are*: watered down (40%), subtle, mild flavoured rye-in-name-only, Canadian whisky. I just figured my collection would be better served by stuff I actually enjoy.

*$70 here in Ontario, compared to $40 for the Lot no 40 and $50 for the Legacy.

Though I turned away from the rising prices on Lagavulin, I did manage to get home with a Springbank 12CS, last one in the store. As usual, they don't know when more will arrive. Anyhow, looking forward to cracking this one. With so many open bottles now, it may be a while though.

Recently got one myself and I say move it to the front of the line! It was excellent and especially opened up very nicely with just a touch of water.

Thanks to Binny's 15% coupon (good for today), I picked up a few that I'd wanted to try but are priced a bit higher than my normal purchases. Picked up a Glendronach 15 (I really like the 12), a Glen Grant 16, and my first IB - a Binny's handpicked Caol Ila 7yr old cask strength.

Nice choices. For one weekend it would have been nice to be at the in-laws so that I could have made it down to make a few buys.

Laphroaig 18.

I'm so excited because I've never seen anything other than the standard 10yr and the Quarter Cask around here.

I don't want to raise your expectations too much but ... enjoy!

The 10 is ok, the QC is very good, the 18 is in a different league ...

It's good, for sure. Different from the 10yr I love so much but still very good.

I purchased a bottle of Tullamore Dew Phoenix. Label says its a blend of grain, malt and pot still whiskey, finished in oloroso sherry casks. Should be much better than the regular!

I came across a bottle of Springbank 15, so I gave it home besides the crummy one between the Macallan 12 and Cragganmore.

I seduced a bottle of Lagavulin 12/2013 this afternoon. After caressing her box for a minute, she followed me to the cash register, and later to my car. We went back to my office, where I put her in a drawer. Very sexy encounter.

Chance encounters in liquor stores where I go around caressing boxes never seem to end as successfully for me. :(

Bought a bottle of Trader Joe's 10yr Highland Single Malt. Not expecting a lot from this one but we'll see...

It does a great job cleaning the gunk out of your sink drain and costs about the same as Draino. That's really all its good for.

I also had a chance encounter with lag 12/2013 this weekend on Binny's coupon day. A "menage a trois" in fact.
