OGD 114 Being Discontinued? (Rumor)

Only one LS has it around here, 55$ and change !!  Had 12 on the shelf yesterday. I asked if that was for 2 and he didn't even laugh.

I've learned to take most things that liquor store employees, managers and sales reps tell me with a grain of salt. Okay, maybe the whole salt shaker. I'm not trying to pile on here. Just relating one of many experiences I've had along the way.

 

I happened to be at one of my favorite local stores one time, and I struck up a conversation with "a guy". Turns out he was a sales rep. When I found out he was a sales rep, and that he handled stuff from HH amongst others, I immediately thought to myself that here's my chance. I asked him if there was any chance he could get EW BIB stocked at said store. He did some doodling on the tablet he had, made a phone call, then told me they'd have EW BIB on the shelf there inside of two or three weeks.  That was over two years ago. Ain't seen it yet.  Just sayin'.

Want to just quickly note: I called him " the whiskey guy" and even named the chain store, precisely so y'all could apply yr previous experience / filters as you see fit. Hope nobody took my post to be an authoritative report -- in the future I'll endeavor to be even more clear about that!

Well, he probably ordered it and then immediately tweeted it and there was a line that started at 3am the day it came in, and you missed out on the whole thing.  Check your local craigslist for the bottles @ 4x markup...

My friend at Beam tells me that no announcement has been made. The only communication on the topic is still the old internal announcement that it was going to be discontinued. However, they've been asking their ambassadors what people are saying. I interpret that to be taking the temperature of the public in you will. If we keep making noise about this, maybe they will reverse the decision.

Yeah Steve, but the noise now being made is to throw them under the bus because a liquor store guy said that the unofficial decision is being reversed back to the original status quo that 114 fans have enjoyed for years...So, enthusiasts get what they want, and are pissed about that too !

Ambassadors? I can only hope they tune in to SB on occasion as I would love to communicate that OGD114 SHOULD NOT BE DISCONTINUED!!! Clear? ya got it? that enough feedback from actual consumers for ya?

 

I have stocked up over the last year and while my purchasing going forward will be very selective OGD 114 makes the cut. In fact I have set a subconscious filter that I only recently realized was in place, It goes like this, I view any potential acquisitions as "would I select bottle X over OGD 114 or will I enjoy bottle X as much as 114"

 

 I view the future of 114 as fragile and will continue to add here and there. If it stays I am pleased to have a decent stock to enjoy that I can and will replenish, if it goes I have a decent stock that I can ration for a VERY long time. I have no idea what Beam is up to and I harbor no ill will toward them, I would like some clarification on this issue and I sincerely hope they DO take enthusiast feedback into account and keep as Joe called it, a beloved expression in regular production.

 

Time will tell but for now this seems just as unsettled as it has for months.

thinking about how to make enough noise . . . I just posted on Beam Suntory's facebook page begging that they don't discontinue it.  Sounds stupid, but social media is getting a lot more attention in corporate offices (in part because they realize that requests made there can be viewed by the public, vs writing a direct letter that they can ignore).  Maybe some folks more adept at that social media stuff can provide some tips for how to raise the awareness?

Of course nothing is official until they say something official, but that is the latest word.
