Guest
Long chat with the Whiskey guy at my local Binny's -- he said the OGD 114 was coming back with a $1 price bump. I can only hope he is right about both assertions...
Whiskey Dick
good news, but still, another black eye for Beam. Hell, jack up the price a bit more and throw a decent age statement on it while you're at it

I mean, at the places where I've been stocking up, we're still a little under $20! Butttt.... we'll see about that "one" buck I guess. No problem to me if it's + two or three. Just would like to make sure it's not +10 or +20! Guess my main interest is keeping the flavor profile and the price-point relatively close to where they are now. I'm hoping that's Beam's goal too. Clueby
It was all over the St. Louis area for between $21.99 and $27.99. After the "announcement" it started creeping up in price and eventually disappeared from shelves. Last week or so it suddenly started showing back up everywhere for between $25.99 and $32.99. No, I meant another black eye in that another decision was quickly reversed. I'm surprised it's only a buck. I figured IF they brought it back it'd be $40. I hope he's right, but we hear all kinds of stuff from liquor store guys. I hear your point, but I look at decision reversals that reduce proposed price increases and potentially bring back a beloved brand label as good news. BottledInBond
I find it to be a little crazy how wide of a price there is on 114 at this point. I can still buy it for $17.99. If it goes up to $18.99 it's obviously no big deal, but I suspect worse
Redslayer
Grabbed one today at $25...that's about as cheap as I can find it here.
musekatcher
Maybe the producers are trying to respond to short term demand with the normal practice of raising prices but nervous and waffling at disgruntled fans. I was thinking, it takes them years to respond with more supply, so they really are squeezed. This up and down of prices with rumors is like commodity behavior lol. I question how this many decisions can possibly be reversed. From my point of view the company has a bunch of idiots working for it who don't understand how business works or they think they can yank our chain anytime they need to boost sales. If either of those are true it's very troubling. Maybe there's another explanation but I sure don't see it.

Thig
Just for the record I love some of Jim Beam's bourbons. Way too much Jim Beam bashing at times.
Limegoldconvertible68
Just now, smokinjoe said: Is there a definitive statement from Beam that OGD 114 is not being eliminated? Not that I've seen but there is anecdotal evidence. Many of my stores told me last year that they couldn't get more and that what was in the distribution chain was all the was left. Now every store is fully stock with it. I realize this is just my small corner of the world and I'm jumping to conclusions but coming so soon after the Bookers fiasco I am quite suspicious seeing so much of it all of a sudden. Harry in WashDC
24 minutes ago, smokinjoe said: Is there a definitive statement from Beam that OGD 114 is not being eliminated? Joe, I just spent about 20 minutes browsing for such a reference. I found nothing definitive, by which I mean nothing with an official Beam person saying or writing the OGD 114 is being discontinued. The closest I came is a comment Chuck Cowdery added to his Oct 23,2016, blog article on the discontinuance of OGD in the 1.75L size. On Oct. 24, he added, " The brand's high proof expression, Old Grand-Dad 114, probably will be discontinued next year, Beam sources say." I thought that Fred Minnick had posted something similar and independent, but I couldn't find it. BUT, people like me, who like it, sure have bought a lot "just in case". A one dollar change? I can handle it. A five dollar change? My bunker will bring down the average cost. A ten dollar change? My bunker is a couple years deep.
